I just started working to become a scout, and I have a question regarding the harvesting of hides, bones, and meat from creatures. After killing a creature, I am able to choose what resource I want to harvest, but if I just choose the "harvest resource" tab, it will automatically choose one of them for me. My question is, does this pick the best resource to harvest for that particular creature, or is it just random? For instance, if a creature will give 5 hides, 3 bones, or 4 meat, will this choose the 5 hides?

No. It's random.

Like Bel said, it's random.

The best thing to do is to harvest one of each (kill three creatures) and determine what is best for that critter. Then harvest the rest of that.

If you are only interested in one (say you need Hide for your camps, etc.) then just selected that tab.
