Thread: Back to the Armor question
For a long time I didnt use any armor at all. And from scouts and rangers I see in game, most of them are not wearing armor.
The problem I ran into is, I'm a piuny bothan, with only about 700 something HP. I drop fast once something is hitting me. I had no problem with running out of action or mind. In fact the only time I ran out of either was when I had a mind bleed on me. It's always my health pool that gets me incap.
So I bought me a really good padded chest peace. It has low encumberance, and protects against kenetic the best, and hunting animals 90% of the time, that's what I wanted. I have watched the combat screen and even with blasters it only stops from 215-65 points of damage on a hit. Not much, but for me enough to justify it. My newer tactic is, with novice medic, buy some good stimpack B's and hit up with those in a fight. So after some testing, I might stop wearing the cest peace.
The few scouts/rangers I see wearing armor, it is only a chest peace, maybe leggings.
I wanted to bring this subject back up since there are now many great pieces of armor on the market along with many skill engancers from Doctors. Is it still the norm for Scouts/Rangers to go armorless? I am still running around in just a Spec Op duster and regular clothes. I did wear some Marbari (sp?) for a bit, but I didn't notice much, if any, damage savings from it. I was hoping that some of you could list what you use, whether it be a colage of different types or a standard set and if you even use a full set or just something like a chest piece and leggings.

I use a full set of chitin that was built by a MA. It has 20% + resistance to kinetic on each piece. I don't PvP, and I avoid combat if possible. However, when I do fight, 9 out of 10 times it will be against creatures. Since the damage they deal is usually kinetic, it does a good job for me.
I spend a lot of time tending harvesters, and sometimes I have to clear the nearby area in order to approach my installations. With a decent pistol and rifle, and the chitin armor, I can generally clear yellow cons as long as I take my time and use decent tactics.
The biggest pain is having to take it all off in order to regenerate the damage I've taken in a fight. With a full set of just about any armor equipped, your HAM bars barely regen at all.
With the way armor is built, a Master Armorsmith can take any type of armor and customize it's stats to be especially efficient against any one particular damage type. It's just a matter of putting their experiment points in the right place. Some armors are more naturally effective against certain types, however.
A good Master Armorsmith will take some time to talk to you about your needs. My advice would be to find one of these and discuss the type of armor that best fits your playstyle. If they won't take that time, then they aren't a good Armorsmith ![]()
Squid,
Like said in my earlier post, I upgraded from Mabari to my new Ubese. 40% kinetics across the board.
Composite and Advanced Ubese (which is bugged, I believe) both offer even higher levels. But with the Composite, at least, you're going to pay for it. The encumbrances are pretty hefty.
I generally will only throw on my armor when I really need it - like I'm in a group and we're hitting high level mobs, and I can usually get a buff from one of our Docs.
It's definitely more useful now since some of the changes, and I'm going to outline that bit more in the next version of the guide.
