Thread: Harvesting/Selling Question
OK. So, here's the thing. I have zero business sense, so I know I always sell my harvests way below market value. Good for rep, not so good for wallet.
I'm gonna use hide as the "base" harvest.
So, if I am to understand all I've read...and trust me, that's as long of a shot as it gets, the deal is that I should charge 3cr for every Medium quality hide, (in no less than a stack of..125? Or was it 250? Dangit...can't remember.), and maybe 5 cr for every high quality hide (again, in a stack of no lessthan whatever the number was). Yes? No?
Having figured that bit out, sorta, here's where I get stumped. Where do you look to find out what the quality is? I've done an examine, and there is a listing for "Quality", but it has numbers next to it. So. Am I to guess correctly that the whole "Medium/High Quality" rating is based on the numbers? Like, say...I dunno...40 to 70 being Medium Quality, and 70 to 100 being High Quality?
Am I making ANY kind of sense right now? I'd really appreciate any help y'all can give.

You are correct in assuming that the quality is based on the numbers...however...
Overall quality or OQ of 900 or better is high quality
The few resources I have been selling have been at 5,7,10 credits ( low, med, high quality ). I know that is still on the low end, but being a Ranger, I am still harvesting enough resources to make traps and camps with some left over. I will admit that it is a very little some left over and I rarely use traps, for now. I feel that is still a fair price for most smiths while still giving me a moderate income. Either way, it is up to the individual. I would avoid being greedy since we know that the Devs are looking into fixing this, most smiths will remember the Scouts/Rangers who took advantage of the situation and you may see some long term effects of items not selling at all due to a bad rep.
Good luck ![]()
Well, that's kinda why I asked the question, Jac. Figured best find out what others do, and what the market values seem to be, before I actually went ahead and tried to sell anything. I was afraid that if I went too high, I'd be labled "That Greedy Zabrak Wench", but I didn't want to shortchange myself either.
As it is, all of what I harvest is real Low Quality. OQ being about...oh....62...*winces* Yeah, I know, I'm young yet. *chuckles* But that's why I wanted to know the numbers, at least as solidly as possible. If I do wind up selling my extras (post trap/camp crafting), I'd like to be able to say "This is a fair price for the quality of said harvest".
Thanks for the help, y'all. Much appreciated.
Hi, Bryg ![]()
Each of the 3 resources (hide, bone, meat) will have certain of their stats that are the most important. For further information, see Delta/Brisc's post at the top of the forum about what crafters want.
As an example, I'll use Hides and the stats that are important to armorsmiths. These are UT (Unit Toughness), OQ (Overall Quality), SR (Shock Resistance), and Malleability. The best hides will have stats over 700 or 800 in all of these categories. In addition, there are 4 kinds of hides, and schematics call for certain types in some cases. The 4 types are: Leathery, Scaley, Bristley, and Wooly. Different crafters will have different hide needs, although Armorsmiths seem to need all at some time, depending on what they are building.
As a new scout, you are most likely not going to be harvestingany organicsthat will be in demand by crafters. What I did is use those low quality organics to build traps and camps in order to raise my Scouting abilities. I never had any excess available to sell. Instead, I made money off of destroy and explore missions.
As you gain in experience, you will begin hunting higher level creatures. These will not yield higher quality hides. I know, it's not the ideal design, but it's what we live with. Higher level creatures still only yield the same basic organic resource types (IOW, you will still only see the 4 types of hides).
If you are on, say, Tatooine, and you have sampled all 4 types of hide and found nothing of decent quality, the only way you can find the high quality hides that are in demand is to go and hunt on another planet. Those 4 types of hides, in their description, will say "Tatooinian Scaley Hide", etc. To find a better scaley hide, you have to check the other planets. It might be that the resource shift has made "Corellian Leathery Hide" the best leathery hide available in your galaxy at that time.
As you can tell, harvesting the high-end organics is pretty much something you won't do until you reach higher levels (unless you luck out in a resource shift). Travelling around costs big money, especially to the exotic planets like Lok. In addition, until you can kill the very high level creatures, the amount you can harvest per kill remains pretty small.
I'm sure that there is a lot more that the high level scouts on this forum can add. Scouting, for me, is an adjunct profession that I use with a hybrid character I like to call a "Miner". With my Miner character, I will never need to harvest high level organics. The only skills I find necessary are Exploration (for maskscent and terrain navigation...checking and servicing harvesters without being hassled by nearby aggros, and also moving quickly over the landscape), and Wilderness Survival (setting camps for healing purposes). Hunting and Trapping skills aren't necessary to my current character. I've only dabbled in them.
However, I know that you can increase the amount of resources you can harvest by raising the Hunting skill.
Anyway, hope this helps.
AHAH! So the resource shifts don't occur planet wide, they occur Galaxy wide! Right! *makes a note of that in her "Scouting for Dummies 101" journal*
I know the stuff I'm harvesting right now isn't super-great, but I've made a bit of money from selling what extras I don't need. Not a huge amount, but it's nice as a small suppliment to all the missions I run. I've also started actually exploring places, as in, If I need to get from Theed to Keren, I'll actually run it, rather than grabbing the shuttle. I'm discovering it's helping me get a better "feel" for the scout's abilities. I'm also doing some extra-curricular hunting on these trips, so I'm bagging more harvests that I can either sell or use to craft. ((Note to self - spiked krevols WILL, in fact, attack in a pack. Horned ones will not....))
I've read Brisc's guides, and I think they're wonderful. Need to actually print them out as a reference at some point. Thank guys, and if y'all have any more tips, jusr speak up!

Note too that some schematics call for much more specific resources. High level architects require 250 Endorian Wooly Hide or 250 Dathomir Leathery (?) Hide to make their top end furniture, so you can make some money by hunting on those planets for those resource types.
