Thread: Are you able to meet your havesting needs?
I am curious if people are reaching their resource quotas? With tracking 4 in ranger, Icould get around 200 meat per lvl 50 Kamurith Defiler when I could still get the missions pre-patch. So roughly, I was making about 1200 meat per lair. I managed to gather about 32k of meat in a couple of weeks which at the time I thought was amazing, until I found out it was going to cost me about 80k in meat to grind out master BE.
The problem that I am running into is that very few creatures drop 200 units of resources per creature. Useally its between 10-100 units per creature depending on the level. It seems to me that making stacks in the 3-5k ranges is quite tedious and time consuming. So I find myself only gathering creature resources for myself and for a few friends. I guess my question is this, for those of you that gather to sell are you able to be the needs of your customers?
I can meet my needs and then some, only because I do not sell to that many people. I also tend to go to the higher level planets in "credit" hunting parties and make out like a fat rat as I harvest everything we kill on missions. I also tend to harvest anything I encounter on the lower planets, as I am grinding pistol xp, and every little bit helps in the long run, and the hides do add up.
As it is now, I harvest only hides and bones, and the meats I need for camo kits. This may change, but generally I have told the docs to pee up a rope, I am not wandering the planets looking for specific stuff that they need, just to be underpaid and overcharged.
My suggestion is go to the higher planets. I was getting better than 100 hides per kill on Dantooine the other night, not even trying. Found 9 scales on lizards too, bonus time. 6k of hides in 6 missions and each mission payout was in the 7k range, yeah, I was happy.

The only reason I brought it up is because I have started to dabble in mining. With the new harvestors I am estimating that I can pull up between 10-15k of resources per day with 1 heavy harvestor. I figure I could gather creature resource at the same rate but I would have to be online all day instead of just an 1/2 hour to check on the harvestor. Of course havesting has some nice benifts over mining, you can make a tidy bank roll running missions while gathering creature resources instead of loosing money in maintence and power. I just find that gathering for myself and my doctor friend that I really have to plan some serious online time, and god forbid if a good stats on something like avian meat pop up on a starter planet like Rori.
I would love to have something like a "farm" where I could just go out and catch like 1000 live rasps to breed and then have the thing just start spitting out a 1-2 thousand units of meat per day ![]()
If you're looking solely for credits, mining is the easiest way to go. With 4 heavies, for example, at 90% efficiency, you can pull 50k units per day. In one resource shift (7 days), that's 350k. If you choose the right resource, you can sell it for 3-4cpu on the bazaar or in bulk to a crafter. Average heavies will take 25k and 15k units of power and maintenance each per shift, but in the end you still profit *greatly*.
Unless you specifically are looking to meet your own needs, be it for meat, wooly hides or specific crafting ingredients, I usually steer clear of hunting purely for credits. I prefer spending that time exploring or simply roleplaying. But that's just me. =)
Ic,
They had animal harvesters like that back in Beta (so I am told), and they took the fun out of hunting, so they were removed.
I'd rather spend the time hunting than just checking harvesters. But I understand that for some things, they could be fun (like fishing).
