Varies per server and according to quality.

Collecting large quantities of fish is the biggest time sink in the game. If you're lucky, you can get 95-125 units per hour. And there's no way to increase the haul.

My fish meat prices range from 20cpu to 200cpu, depending on quality.

Volsted, thanks for the info, your guide to fishing has helped me tremendously. I use your techniques all the time. the best overall quality i have seen so far is 627. I have read your guide many times and thought i had seen a scale for the price per unit, but have not been able to locate that info since, any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Well, here's how I price my fish. This is not the only way to do it. This is not even necessarily the BEST way to do it. But it's how I do it, and it works reasonably well. It compensates me for my time, and scales according to the quality of the fish.

Step 1: Get a weighted average.

For Bio-Engineers, the three important qualities are Flavor, Potential Energy, and Overall Quality. These are all equally weighted, since the schematics call for 33% of each.

So I find out what the weighted average stat is for these three things by simply adding them up and dividing by 3. Fish meat with FL: 483, PE: 832, OQ: 919 would have a weighted average of:
(483 + 830 + 919)/3 = 744

Step 2: Calculate the cost per unit based on the weighted average

I have three formulas I use for this, depending on the weighted average. NOTE: There is nothing particularly special or magical about these formulas. They're more-or-less arbitrary, based on what makes sense to me.

If the weighted average is between 500-800, the cost per unit will be:
4 * [(Avg. - 200)/60]

IF the weighted average is between 800-900, the cost per unit will be:
4 * [(Avg. - 700)/10]

If the weighted average is between 900-1000, the cost per unit will be:
4 * [((3 * Avg.) - 2500)/10]

These formulas give a range of 20cpu for average quality fish meat to 200cpu for fish meat with PE, OQ, and FL all at 1000. For our hypothetical fish meat with the weighted average of 744, the cpu would be:
4 * [(744 - 200)/60] = 36.3

Again, I don't claim that these are magical formulas. I didn't set down and run multi-variate analysis on the supply/demand curve or anything to get these formulas. So don't go off thinking that these formulas are in any way authoritative.

On the other hand, if you've been looking for a formula to take some of the guesswork out of things, these formulas work reasonably well in my experience. One of the Bio Engineers on Tempest is offering 50 cpu for a specific type of fish meat that just spawned. I ran the stats through my formulas and came up with a price of 58.4 cpu, which is close enough, and which the B-E would probably pay if I had a big enough stack of the stuff.

(I use the same formulas for non-Fish items, but I remove the 4x multiplier, giving me a range of 5cpu to 50cpu on other animal resources.)

Thanks alot Volsted you have helped me immensely. I appreciate you being so thorough. On a side note you must have way to much time on your hands, your guides are so intense it must have taken months to compile all of the info you have supplied. As some what of a noob Master Scout your guides have helped me get through the rough times of scouting.

Thanks again,
