Thread: Holo, pls address this harvesting hides/bones issue in groups

On one of your loading screens to entry of the game it reads the following:

"Multiple scouts in a group can harvest the same carcass but different resources."

So if I understand this correctly this would mean up to 3 scouts can harvest the corpse for hide/bones or meat if available and receive the item and the scout xp. Well currently this is not the case and has never been the case in beta as well. Once it is harvested by one person it no longer allows any further harvest. Group options do not split the harvest amoung the group and obviously scout xp is only given to the "ninja" harvestor.

Pls look into this asap as it only causes grief and in game fights in groups when multiple people are looking for scout xp. It also causes you to solo for this scout xp which is not exactly fun way to play if you dont want to. Furthermore, it really hurts the Ranger most as they have 2 lines that require scout xp and really negates their benefit to grouping.

The 2 solutions would be:

1. Exactly as your loading screen suggests. This would not solve large groups issues but it's realistic and helps.

2. Autosplit the hides amoung the group similar to credits and dole out xp to all scouts in the group.

Pls let us know.

Harvesting definitately has a bug. Try harvesting 16m+ away from a corpse. You get no message that you are out of range, yet when you move into range and try to harvest you get nothing ... no message and no harvest. Why can't we get an "out of range" message? Why does that "out of range" harvest attempt remove my ability to harvest when I *am* in range?

Definitely buggy code here. I also have to wonder if a non-trained Scout (someone that has not taken Novice Scouting) can still execute the /harvest command and ruin the harvest for other scouts? If any of you are paired up with a non-Scout, have them try this and report back to us.

MMP games are social, community-based, right? Well ... allowing scouts to ninja harvest is not very group, social, or community oriented. This behavior I expect to find in Shadowbane, not SWG.

Sharing Scouting/Survival XP among all group scouts would be nice. However, there's also the problem of sharing XP with characters that aren't truly interested in advancing in those areas, especially since this XP per kill/harvest is so low anyway. If there are 10 ppl in a group, but only 2 scouts, should those 2 scouts have to share the entire scouting/survival XP among all 10? I'd hope not. Ideally a group would be able to identify/select the group members that want to share scout/survival xp.

I wish self-policing would work, but there are too many ninjas out there.

I'll add my voice to this. It's truly one of the most irritating things about the game.

I never bump posts to get attention, but in this case I DO want to ask the devs to look at this. Multiple scouts in a group is very common, and the inability to get more harvest for everyone is one of the reasons I don't group very often (yet).

I haven't seen that loading screen, but I think it's a great idea. Given the xp yield on higher end mobs, it's appropriate that multiple people in a 'big game' group should get FULL scout xp for their /harvest. There's a few other active threads that mention this problem - and if it's on a loading screen, I expect that it should be a VERY high priority. After all, Beta 4 has gone on for what, 2 weeks now? =P

For what it's worth, While in a group for destroy mission (with multiple scouts) I always initiate a "Harvesting order" prior to the missions. Some say that the group leader should do this, but that's a whole nuther discussion.

So everyone has two missions to the West and you set out. Generally my rule is that each scout loots their own mission. If there are non scout's in the group their missions can be divided between the scouts.

If someone starts Ninja looting, which has happened countless times to everyone, you can explain to them the reason why that can't do that (I have encountered much ignorance on the subject believe it or not) And remind them of the looting order discussed prior to the missions. If that doesn't work, reform the group without them, they will learn soon enuff after hours of soloing due to their selfish behavior.

My 2 cents

It would be nice if there was a autosplit function for harvesting creature resources in groups, similiar to the autoloot function. It could automatically divide up the harvested resource between all characters in the group who are capable of harvesting. It would also be nice if the leader could remove and adda valid player from the autosplit in the case they didn't wish to receive a portion of the harvest (because they didn't need it or whatever)so others could receive a larger portion of the harvest. I invision it like this...

/group autosplit harvest

/group autosplit harvest remove charactername

/group autosplit harvest add charactername

Brilliant idea. Panicky fear of ninja harvesting split up a group I was in last night. Funny thing is, all the scouts were cool, we were setting up an order, everything was hunky dory. But some pocket facist decided that his friend should get all the xp. Our medic got ticked and ran off. I almost got stranded on Dantooine, but for the gracious donation of some creds from a true class act.

The sad part is, none of the scouts had a problem. There at least appeared to be true honor amongst scouts. The problem was from the guy who demanded that we switch leadership over from our medic (another true class act) to him suddenly throwing down orders that only his boy was going to get xp. I swear to god, replace boy with another word that begins with b that the censor won't allow, it would have been a lot more accurate.

Another thing that would be great is a graphic for harvesting. The character could just kneel when harvesting. This way you could see if someone already harvested something the corpse and you know you can move on. I hate it when there are 3-4 kills in a small area and now I have to click all of them to see if they have been harvested. I think turning a corpse into a skeleton once harvested would be the ultimate solution but that's probably too much to ask for.
