Hey i'm just wondering if it is worth going just scout and not bounty hunter or ranger. If you havent noticed, my name on here is rebelscout 2005 so its kind of what I want to do but I dont really want to go ranger because its MORE camping that I dont have time for. If some one out there could help me out I would really be thankful.

A lot of professions require all (BH & Ranger) or some (CH) Scout skills. I suppose it all depends on where you want to go and how many points it takes to get there. I would suggest that having at least a few Scout skills would be beneficial.

Now, as for Ranger requiring more camping, etc. Well, if you do make use of your Scout skills then you are going to be getting the XP. Why not apply that to Ranger? You do end up getting better skills than a standard Scout.

Yes it has merits:

1) You get some decent creature knowledge and harvesting capabilities

2) You gain Mask Scent abilities which will help your running around planets

3) You gain some nice traps that help in PvE creature combat(as a master Ranger I still use primarily the traps from the Scout profession).

4) You get some decent camps to help with healing those wounds in the field

5) And you get maximum terrain navigation in terms of running.

Of the lines though, your biggest noticable benefit will come from the exploration line with its terrain negotiation and mask scent.

I can't improve on SolrFlare's post, it sums it up perfectly.

All I can do is confirm that some Scout skills are almost a necessity if you are ever going to leave the towns. Specifically: Exploration and MaskScent, for faster travel over broken ground and the ability to travel without having every red dot make a beeline for you with mayhem on their mind.

The only thing that might change this is the introduction of riding mounts and, much later, vehicles into the game world. No one is certain how this will effect terrain negotiation, or whether you will simply be able to outrun aggro'd mobs.

For now, I wouldn't want to play the game without those two Scout skills.

Rebel,

Solr and Degs posts answered your question, but I really feel like the decision is up to you. If you really like Scouting, then Rangering is going to be your best bet once you hit Master Scout.

But you'll still have plenty of skill points left over, so sample a few things and see what you like best.

Personally I love the skills being a master scout gives me. I know for sure I will never surrender any of my creature handler skills or my scouting skills. The handler simply because I love pets and my scouting because they are so useful. Everything else is subject to change based upon my whims.

You won't be hurt by not going further. If you decide to try a BH, CH, Ranger, Squad Leader or a Bio-Engineer, you'll have the pre-requisits or at least be a good ways towards sampling those professions.

As long as you don't need the skillpoints for other professions you want more, the scout skills alone are worth it.

Being a Master Scout was cool. I wore that tag til I made Master Ranger. But being a Master Ranger is more fun.

And nothing is stopping you from a third Master. Cut away all the non-needed items and you can easily become a Master Scout/Ranger/ Pick your Weapon class... I am toying with Master Pistoleer right now, tho I really don't want to lose medic.

Artisan is also a shoein... you can harvest most of the resources yourself.

The skills you learned as a Scout only increase as a Ranger, and once they get some stuff fixed, they will increase even more. It's stuff you like doing obviously, so why not "get paid twice" (xp for Ranger is basically scout xp, and whatever other xp you are getting besides.)

Just my humble opine -- ok, not so humble --

JB
