Thread: Hunting Missions -- Borked?

I'm generally not one to use the term, but hunting missions, at my level, are just plain borked.

Any night of the week I can run around and kill Flesh Eating Chubas all night long. So when I saw that 4600cr hunting mission to nail 45 of them, I thought "peice of cake"!

3 hours later I had 15 and gave up.

I picked up the mission at Keren, ran a complete circle around the city searching the "Newb Zone" for them, found 2. I hiked from Keren to Deeja Peak, wiped out 3 Chuba lairs for meat (Not flesh eating...and funny thing I rarely run across the non-flesh eating variety), 2 Kaadu lairs, solo'd a Peko Peko without a pet, and killed no less than 40 Ikopis in one lair just outside the city.

No Flesh Eating Chubas.

I ran around Deeja Peak looking for them. Found none.

Hopped a shuttle to Theed because I'm ALWAYS seeing them there.

Ran a circle around the city finding Rawls, Nunas, Gnorts and Spineflaps. Found one location that seemed to spawn Flesh Eating Chubas and for 45 minutes I camped it to go from 2 to 15 kills before cancelling the mission in disgust.

The other night I had the same problem finding Spineflaps. I took a high paying mission to bring in 45 of them and was confused by not only the backstory, but the lack of spineflaps altogether. Sure I could have taken one of the lower paying missions, but why? I can make the same amount of cash running delivery missions. Its just kind of annoying and seems to be bugged. If we accept a mission to find a critter, that critter needs to spawn enough times that we don't spend 4 hours running around the planet looking for them.

God I'm frustrated with this. I seems that nearly every time I take one the target animal stops spawning. It happened to me on Corellia back when I first started SWG with Paralopes and I gave up on Hunting missions then. I'm about to give up on them now -- they just aren't paying off.

Any advice? Suggestions? Anyone else seeing this?

Get your explorer mission for Animal A. Go to the regular terminal and find a mission for the same animal. Now you know where some are, or will be once you get in the area and make them spawn. Go do the regular mission... you get what - 10 lets say. Return to terminal, get another animal A mission... repeat til done. Or, hunting with a buddy, you got 3 animal A missions, one explorer... 30 before you come in.

The beauty of this, you get the regular missions, the harvest to sell,a nd when you hit 45... a bonus payout.

It works, they are not "borked" just takes a lil figuring out.

FUna,

The tip of getting a destroy mission for what you're hunting works - just make sure you unequip your weapon to get the hunting mission.

The Hunting missions are designed to be long term, high paying excuses to get your out exploring. That's why they come from an "Explorer" terminal.

If you want quick cash, run a few destroys, but the explorers are designed to get you out in the wild for a long time.

They got me out there all right...for 4 hours with a payback of 15 kills. I'm sure you'll agree that for something as common as Flesh Eating Chubas that's kind of ridiculous. Most of the hunting missions aren't high-paying either...they're 1000-1500 from the terminals I've been to. It just seems silly that you get a mission for something you've been killing for days that they dissappear and won't spawn anywhere. It wouldn't be so bad if I could hold onto the mission for a few days either, but with the server resets or the mission simply timing-out it isn't there the next day.

Grrrr...I can't believe I wasted all that time. I'd take the 1000+ scouting missions if they weren't bugged to where the mission ends for no reason.

Excuse my ranting I'm just frustrated. I got 3000u of hide that isn't selling even for 3cr/u (879 OQ Leathery) after 4 days, and now the hunting missions aren't paying off. I think its time to work on the artisan grind for a bit. Meh.

The mission disappears? Odd, I've had several that I've taken and completed over several days. These were when we got daily updates, so I know they persisted across maintenance reboots. I'd /bug it if it happens again.

My favorite Hunting mission is the jungle fynock. I get them in Nashal (on Talus), and they're typically valued at about 10,000 credits. I then take destroy missions for jungle fynocks at about 1600 credits a pop, and proceed to wreak a little havoc on the fynock population The destroy missions are USUALLY within 1000m of town. Takes me about an hour to complete the hunting mission.

I have a few Pistoleer skills (0/0/2/1), so I'm pulling level 14 missions. YMMV, but it works out well for me.

I sympathize with you. I took an Explorer mission to destroy Jundland Eopies and then a few missions to destroy Jundland Eopie lairs. I was one kill away from my 45 and I couldn't find any more Jundland Eopie lair missions! I searched forever. I finally shuttled to a different city and even there I had to search for a long time before I found a Jundland Eopie lair mission. And guess what? When I got there, some Bounty Hunter was already taking out the lair! I told him to stop, that it was my mission, and his response was "You'll get paid anyway," and then he ran off. I hate it when that happens! Fortunately I found another Jundland Eopie so I could finally complete that Explorer mission.

Just last night I decided to run from Anchorhead to Wayfar and I came across a number of creatures that appear in the Explorer destroy missions (and a few that don't). So I guess if you don't mind running for a long while you can find all the creatures you need to kill. Just don't get killed yourself because your body will be out in the middle of nowhere!

On a side note, during my solo trek across the desert I took down a Swarming Lesser Dewback and a Rogue Bantha! These may not be big kills for anyone else, but they were my biggest solos yet.

I've had similar problems with hunting missions. My final solution was to equip my best weapon when looking for hunting missions, then un-equip weapons when looking for the destroy mission. Also, and this may be a bug, but I'm not telling anybody, if I can't find what I'm hunting any other way, I log out for the night (or do something else until I do log out). When I log back in the next day, I can usually find what I need. On Rori the best creatures I've found to hunt are borgle bats. I can get both the hunting mission and the destroy missions I need, although I thinkit's better if you can find the lairs on your own, they seem to spawn for creatures than when you take destroy missions.
