Thread: Delta, have you seen this on Test?
I was on the test server today killing a few chubas. Then I looked to see the quality of meat and saw that I had six different types of Nabooian herb meat! I just created this character and chubas were the only things I had killed. Killed 2 flesh eating chubas, got two different types of Nabooian carn meat. I never paid that much attention to harvesting on the live servers, but it cant be that bad, otherwise I'd have no room for anything but resources.
Anyone else notice this on test?
Kairo,
I've noticed this too. I'm going to post a question regarding it on the Correspondents board.

At first glance, this seems like a problem. Upon further reflection though, I think this has a lot of potential. If the quality of the resource is dependent on the difficulty of the creature, there won't be any "easy" farming of newbie critters to amass quantities of resources.
However, based on the description given by Kairo, this isn't quite the case and there's going to need to be tweaking. If every creature has a different quality of meat, we're never going to have quantities high enough to amount to anything useful. If every creature type has a different quality, though, we're in for some real fun finding the "worthwhile" resources to gather. It will certainly add a bit of variety to our profession, and require more specialized hunting than just getting any creature that gives acertain type of hide or meat from a given planet.
I'm very interested in hearing a bit more about how this is working on TC.
The materials we harvest are determined exactly the same as what artisans survey. A random number of resources are generated within each specific category. The only difference is that for surveyed materials there may be none, while we always have at least one in each category.
When sampling, the artisan can choose which resources to take. When harvesting, we can only choose the category (meat, hide, bone) and the sub-category, if there are multiple ones, is randomly chosen. Thus you end up with multiple types of carnivore meat from the same chuba as experienced here.
More often than not there is only one, but from the sounds of it, way too many types are being generated. Perhaps they were doing the artisans a favor to give them more variety, but forgot the harvested materials use the same system?
This happened to me way back near the release of the game. I would get several different types of hides from the same creature/type of creature. Killing 3 animals would result in 6+ different sub-types of hide. But it didn't happen on all creatures, all the time, so I never gave it a second thought, I just harvested a different resource from those creatures (8 types of Tatooine Scaly hide from one type of creature is just irritating).
think of it this way, a cow gives how many different cuts of meat? sure they are from the same animal but they are all different. same with what your expierencing. one time you may harvert T-bone the next porter house still same animal just different cuts. It is a random factor in the harvest.
Hope this helps
Good hunting
