Thread: Throwing Traps While Prone...
Hey when did it change so we can no longer throw traps while prone? And why did they change it? I started this game as a scout using rifle. I shortly switched to using pistal, and so I was never hunting while prone. I can throw traps while kneeling no problem. I used to hunt all the time with my rifle and could throw traps when I was prone. The toon just reached his arm way out over his head and tossed it. Great.
Well I have gone back to working up my rifle and hunting with it. I soon learned I can't throw my traps while prone. I tried it with a pistal but same thing. So why is this? It's bad enough that with a rifle, if you don't drop them before they come at you, you're in big trouble. It would nice to be able to throw a Phacnecine Dart or Adhesive Mesh to keep them away, so I can stay prone and continue shooting.
How do you Ranger/Rifleman hunt this way? What are the tactics?
Squid,
I've been focusing on swordsman so much lately, that I didn't notice this. Is it possible that you're out of range, and not because you are prone? Just a question.
Otherwise, I'll bring it up as an issue.

Doh, OK now I feel like a dope. Totally forgot about trap range. I'm sure that's it because I have been keeping at about 50m with my rifle. Thanks, and I forgot about using the mind traps too, that will help escecially since I just got mindshot1. The rifle/mind tactics have totally slipped my mind its been so long.
Thanks for the reminder.
Zio,
I was getting frustrated with rifle - the long cycle times, the major mind damage (to ME when using my specials) and the difficulty in finding a good T-21.
Then I picked up swordsman.
I just hit novice swordsman last night, and thanks to Havelock (check him out if you are on Bloodfin - he's a stud master weaponsmith), I've got myself a power hammer with a 415 max damage, 5.5 speed and it hits the main pools - not just mind.
I love one hitting Kaadu.
I really, really suggest that any Riflemen out there back up their rifling with two-hand swords. It's simply kickass.

I've been using traps a lot today and I've had no problem throwing them while prone. Like Delta said, maybe your targets are out of thrown-trap range.
Personally I like to get 45 meters from the target, throw a trap to slow the target, then a couple of traps to damage the mind, then a couple of head shots with the rifle. By that point the slow trap expires and I'm kiting the target with my pistol. Then I throw another slow trap (while on the run), get some range, throw another couple mind-damaging traps and then take a couple more head shots. This usually works for me when I'm soloing "red circles." If the target is still alive, it's usually weak enough at this point that I can kite it with my pistol or charge it with my sword for the final blow.
Delta, isn't sword fun? It's by far my favorite and most effective up-close weapon. I even use it against "red circles" (without wearing armor) and I come out on top, usually after I soften the target up first with traps. I picked it up after you suggested it as a compliment to mind-damaging traps and rifle. Admittedly I didn't want to take up sword because I thought it didn't fit in with my vision of the Star Wars universe, but when you're in the middle of nowhere any tool that can save your life is a good tool!

What planet is Havelock on? I'm on Bloodfin as well. I know Digeed on Corellia generally carries all firearms.
Just you wait till I get Weaponsmith. I'll make sure to hook you up with T-21s. Alas I'm still working on Master Artisan so it will be a while since I'm focusing more on finishing Scout (damned Trapping IV will be the death of me and about 1,283,983 gubbers, durnis, correlian butterflies).
FUna,
Havelock's shop is just outside of our PA Hall, 2k north of Theed, Naboo.
His vendor is fully stocked as of last night - tons of stuff.

Next time I'm on Naboo I'll have to check out his vendor. Good 'Smiths with well-stocked vendors (and reasonable prices) can be hard to come by sometimes. I found a Weaponsmith who was selling an unsliced DH17 carbine for 12,000 once...I laughed all the way out the door and bought a Laser Carbine for 10000cr instead from another vendor.
