This really starts to irritate me...even on the lowest level mobs (gnorts), my traps fail most of the time

Or just nothing happens (no fail, no success)... And when they do hit, I get about 40 xp...

On some higher level mobs I get like 90% fails, so how the hell am I supposed to raise trapping xp???

Every time I play this game it gets me frustrated, guess I'll better find myself a WORKING game to play....

this happens because some specific traps only work like two or three times an animal sometimes even just one time. what you do is if you have like an architect or weaponsmith friend who can let you use their factory just make schematics for every trap you know and get like 25 of each and just switch off on the ones you throw like first you throw wire mesh trap then that dart one etc etc

Reef,

Make sure that you are throwing all of the traps that you can at every guy you attack.

Traps that give a state won't work until the state wears off.

The last trap in a stack sometimes fails - it's a known bug and its on the list.

Read my guides for more trapping tips.

Trapping is by far the easiest of the trees to get through - so just keep it up. You'll get there eventually. And I'd not bother with gnorts for trapping. Do nightspiders. Better XP.

I have a running theory on trap failures, actual failures as opposed to the "Last-in-stack" bug.

When building traps, try to use the best hide/bone/metal/polymer you can get, don't just use any ol' junk you get your hands on. It seems like I get less failures and longer trapped durations, especially on more dangerous critters like Peko Pekos and Greater Shaupauts when I use better materials.

I've also noticed that traps seem to work better when I get a "Good Success" or "Amazing Success" during the crafting process - which many times seems to be due to using better materials.

Additionally...find an artisan who can whip you up a good Weapon, Droid and General Crafting tool or a Generic Crafing Tool. I experimented one up to +14.62 and I get less critical failures and seem to get more successful trappings/longer durations than with the default generic tool.

I've found myself pretty lucky that I'm also a Master Artisan (getting ever so close to Master Scout) so I drop personal harvesters on locations with good metals and polymers and keep a hefty supply of them around for Phecnacine and Adhesive Mesh traps. I'd recommend starting Scouts get Novice Artisan, a Chemical Survey tool and a Mineral survey tool and sample their own Metals/Polymers for traps (hint: you can sample while in a camp healing and you get both Surveying and Survival XP).
