Ok for the first time since july I was grinding out scout on a new character.

I remember it took me 3 hours to get Hunting III (from hunting II) on tatooine (no armor but bone back then and the best weapons were scout blasters and Dlt20a's)

well on bria I grinded Explore IV, Hunt IV Trapping IV and survival 1 in a mere 3 hours on one group hunt.

Delta correct me If my memory is bad, but didn't it used to be that in order to harvest higher level creatures you needed a higher level of hunting?

I remember not being able to harvest bantha's and dewbacks till I had hunting II, and almost nothing on dantooine untill hunt IV?

survival is almost a joke now, I crafted enough traps to get surviavl 1 while grinding trapping. Granted trapping has always been easy, just throw every trap in the book at em

To those that complain about scout takeing so long to grind. I dare you to try it on a brand new server (if they ever create a new one) then you will see what it is like to grind.

Talon,

I know exactly what you're talking about because I just did it on Shadowfire. I've already gotten through to Explore IV and Hunting IV, with one level of traps and survival - and I've not been playing that hard.

And no - we could always harvest any critter. The difference was that back when we started, no one could kill those big creatures, so we never hunted them.

sheesh....remember when i said i was giving up master scout to finish up a few other things?

after dropping that plus about another couple of boxes and losing the exp after trying to use the skill. I was able to get almost all of it back on a single hunt for hide with my guild. wasn't even a good 2 hours......

this is why i wanna scream every time i see a post from someone new complaining about how long it's taking ....oh yeah...*clears throat* and does not read Brisc's guide to scouting.

*grin*

LOL! I read about all these newbies coming in to the BH profession after two weeks of doing marksmen and scout. Two weeks. It took me two months! But, then I think... well no one ever got doc buffed, no one wore much if any armor, chef foods were not quite what they are now (back then they didn't even stack and a lot of the foods were useless) and I remember paying 35K for a spray stick and 20K for a scout blaster; plus you didn't have 12 point smiths with the best resources that have ever spawned in the last 12 months on the server so the weapons were not all that great.

Its interesting how much a game can change; and how hard it can be to control leveling time sinks when all the items are player crafted. The game started off slow for us old timers because the infrastructure wasn't quite in place yet. Everyone was still learning. But, then it all just snowballed and a new player has the world at his fingertips. Crap I remember when no one had a vendor on the planetary map yet and it was dang near impossible to find a weaponsmith.

I don't know what they need to rebalance? You telling me I shouldn't be able to get 450K Unarmed XP in an hour of hunting on Endor and not taking any damage? What's unbalanced about that?

In another year we'll be saying: "Remember when you could get doc buffed and entertainer buffed and throw on your 80% composite armor and solo-group Janta missions on Dant for 300K cr an hour?"

I no masochist, but I do like challenges and quite frankly there are many ways SWG can get too easy. Rather than taking the path of least resistance, I often look for ways to do things people regard as "impossible" or "too hard", just to say I did it! I know I won't mind properly handled combat rebalance.

If your feeling nostalgic for the good ol'days of launch, try starting a novice scout on Test Center and taking a trip to lok. Those of you who miss the "ring of death" and red mobs popping up all over the place will be glad to hear that it is alive and well, and waiting to crush you like a bug. It is also a challenge because master doc buffs and uber weapons/armor are very rare and too expensive to by as a beginning character.

There is that, but I since I only recently have had access to broadband I haven't tired playing on the Test Center. Large and frequent patches do not go will with dial-up, especially if you want to actually play the game.
