Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems to me that many of the scouts / rangers (and pretty much everyone) has this fetish for powergaming their skills. Where is this fun in that? Personally, I love the way that SWG is set up so that you *can* roleplay to advance...and you don't have to powergame like in some other MMORPG's like ...runescape. Now there's a game that's all about powergaming for skills. Ugh. Are there any people who actually like just exploring the forests and the backcountry parts of the universe?

I agree that Powergamers have hurt SWG, but I think scouts and especiallyrangers, of all the classes, are least likely to "powergame."
Most powergamers wouldn't waste precious skill points on Ranger (except during the hologrind days).

While I consider myself to be a powergamer, I agree wholeheartedly with this. The game is much more fun when you don't make it "work".

Yes, JessAtmore, there are some of us who just explore for the enjoyment of exploring. I'm still exploring some corners of the various planets and I've been playing for over a year now. I rarely take any missions and just live off the land and fight who I find. The only problem is that it leaves me pretty poor
I haven't done any 'hologrinding' or profession grinding to get skills in any of my professions so there do exist a few of us. The problem is that advancement is slow enough that most people aren't willing to do it that way.

Proud to say that my primary character hasn't "ground" any of his base template. Mastered Ranger and Rifle without the grind... even camping...
My alt though? I plead the 5th on that one.

I'm proud to say I retemplated from Master Rifleman/SL to Master TK/Fencer 0400 in three days.

As a Ranger, I have never ground a day in my life....however when my toon was a BH (I got the badge for role-playing purposes) and I decided to switch my combat prof...I went from Master BH w/ some Ranger to Ranger/TKM is about a week. that's the fastest grind i've ever done and it was actually a bad experience for me.
Currently, I'm doing the FS quests, but I'm not grinding- I'm doing the missions, unlocking the trees and slowly making my way up the trees. Honestly, I traded in all my XP only once. I have unlocked two trees and still don't have a single box.

I'm also proud to say that my loot whore alt is almost finished. And he's a master scout! Template's going to be Master Swordsman / Master Brawler / Ranger 0040.
It's nice to get back out there and relevel a Scout the old fashioned way.

I don't powergame my way through professions... but that is due to an incredibly low attention span.
I just can't make myself sit in camps doing nothing just to get xp... and craft grinding... ug. 5 minutes worth and my eyes are practically bleeding. So, I'm just really really REALLY slow at leveling.
I love Scout and Ranger because I really have no need of grinding anything - I enjoy using all the skills enough that it comes naturally. In fact, I've mastered scout on a couple characters I didn't even need to. The character I've designed as a smuggler is almost at master scout and I only have half the pistol xp for one of the first level boxes.
Even one of the characters I have designated for a pure entertainer is at 4042 scout lol.
But not all professions in SWG are like that. Tailor. (shudder) I have been a tailor on Test Center for almost 6 months and I am at 2200. In desperation I've tried grinding a grand total of three times. Neither time did I make it beyond 5 minutes. I'm hoping some freak accident will come along and wipe out my vendors so I have an excuse to fill them again. I has originally intended this character to be a tailor/chef... not anymore. Or maybe in 5 years. Don't get me wrong - I am loving tailor and wouldn't give it up. But I love crafting the clothes - not clicking a button as fast as I can.
So I am a big proponent as level through actual playing and avoiding grinding at all costs. Its the only way I can do it. Anything else and I'd be burnt out in a week.
Knowing all that - I'm not even going to BEGIN to calculate how long its going to take to finish the FS trees!

I have loved wandering and exploring the SWG universe. One of my fav parts of the game.
