The guide is great, but it says nothing about survival (=camping) exp. But to answer your question: Yes, you get survival exp. And you get more if you follow the guide. But for me it looks like camping gets you a little more exp than fishing (I could be wrong here). On the other hand, camping for exp is just plain boring and produces nothing.

It's a LOT more XP from camping.

But fishing is a good way of doing it while doing something.
