Emo,

Just to piss you off.

Camping is part of the game - and at one time it didn't suck and was a very important part of the game. While it sucks that camping sucks now, it used to suck even worse. Then we Scouts decided that it shouldn't suck so much, and we worked with the Devs to find ways to reduce the suckfactor.

Andyou know what? We did it. It's sucks much less now, with traps and camp crafting and fishing granting survival XP.

I went through the camp tree the hard way. So did a lot of us. And THAT sucked.

So don't think about how much it sucks now. Think about how much it sucked for me and be thankful we got stuff fixed so it doesn't suck that hard anymore.

And we're working to dial down the suck on camping even further.

Hopefully, it'll get taken care of quickly, but who knows - its sucks have to wait.

Gonna let you in on a little secret.

Camping sucks so bad because all the little wanna-be Bounty Hunters need something to whine about besides how bad Bounty Hunter sucks. That's right, wait til you get to BH, talk about uber suck.

TKMs pwn you in PvP. Combat Medics pwn you. Hell, anyone with half a brain and a knowledge of tactics pwns you, specifically an unarmored, unbuffed Ranger. The BH missions suck, take forever, and you end up spending more than you make. Armor is expensive, needs to be replaced, but without it, you can't be uber. Your weapons, after you pay some outrageous amount to get them, decay fast because you gotta have em sliced and powered up. Let's not forget the obligatory pets you must have, cuz you sure as hell can't take on marks solo, and the buffs you need to pay for as you are too wimpy to beat on marks without them.

But the Devs said, if they can whine about camping, then they will be happy once they hit BH. And it works.

Well, I think camping only 'sucks' if you see it as preventing you from mastering scout or ranger. But if you think of camps as actually working to your advantage, then they don't suck at all and are, in fact, quite useful. No, they are not as useful as they could be, but they don't entirely 'suck.'

Three of my favorite uses for camps:

  1. they increase your healing rate -- I see tons of people sitting down out in the wild so that they heal faster, but if you drop a camp (even a basic one), your healing rate increases even more. They also heal wounds (though in most cases not as quickly as a med center -- but if you take into account travel time to the nearest med-center, maybe just as quickly).

  2. they let you pull vehicles and droids without delay -- you can craft and deploy a basic camp kit in less than 15 seconds. I hate standing around for 15 seconds + additional time if I just exited combat.

  3. they are visible from a long way off, so they serve as rallying points when you're gathering your group in the wilderness. The camp says, "this is where we are supposed to meet, don;t wander off." We had a big pvp battle on our server, and another master ranger set up a high-tech field base, and it was really usefull because you knew where to go to get your disease, poison and wounds healed. Well, that was until the imps overran it!

I would say, you're not "playing it". Before the flames burn me up, I don't mean that you are doing something wrong, but that you may not be "playing it".

As a roleplayer (when I can) I enjoy the respite that a camp give me and my party. My usual partneris my friend, Osari. After completing our missions and tracking down some more prey, we'll usually set up a camp for the "night". (He hates hunting at "night") He'll survey a rich deposit of something or other, I'll drop the camp and we'll both sample and craft (he with his stuff and me with traps and camps).

The other side to doing this, besides the XP gained from crafting camps/traps andhealing each other (that does not sound right...), is meeting others. Another responder to this thread said that the camp can serve as a rallying point for your party. I totally agree, but not only for your party. At night, a camp is very visible. I have met many interesting people, who have stopped by the camp on their way where ever. They usually sit down, rest up (i.e. heal) chat for a bit and then move on or join our hunt.Example, I met another hunting partner of mine, Ufgang, when he stopped by and did just as i have described. We hunt together and trade often.

When "played", camping can be very fun and interesting, to say the least.

If your position is that camping is something you HAVE to do, I can see you point. I don't agree with it, butI do understand. As with a lot of things, the bad must come with the good.

Flame Prevention: These are my own opinions and are not meant to belittle anyone else's position. You said camping was lame, and I disagree.

Grin and bear it...

I don't know if you're just poking him with a stick to anger him away from the forum, or if you're being serious. My MBH/Pistoleer does pretty well in PvP. My biggest problem are Riflemen with Jawa Ion Rifles.

Last thing we need is more people on this forum complaining about camping, though. So if you're chasing him off then good.

What's the deal with complaining about camping? The first non-Novice title I got was Survivalist. It was so easy. And this was before they gave you Survival XP for camping and before they decreased the camp cap time.

Ya, camping may seem like this terrible injustice that has been caused toward you, but its justa stepping stone. I remember feeling that it wasnt fair, and how bad i just wanted to be a master scout so that i could get to ranger, but its logical. They have you camp because thats the best way to get survival xp. Of course they let you get the xp other ways now, but they want you to realize that camping is the best way to get it. Not to mention all the other things people have said, about it being a great rally point, and healing is greatly increased with a good camp. Its a good place to just sit there and chat with people too. Overall, camps do take time, but its time thats well spent, and you will eventually get that survival four, that you have been hoping for so long.

All I can say is - I won't be camping for XP anymore.

Finished Master Ranger last night (and dropped). No, I'm not a holo-grinder - just wanted to try something new. Was going to drop it sooner, but was so close to finishing it....

Thank goodness for crafting camps and giving xp. I think I made 400 Field Bases.
