Really, I don't think this is necessary.Combine all the certs from Master Marksman with the Bounty Hunter weapons and you can hit any specific damage type you want.Once you canselect any given damage type, the issue is mostly resolved since you only need to hit to apply a state (no connection to damage done to target). Sure damage rangesand speed are still factors, but they are secondary at best. Bounty Hunters don't need this, and I doubt the Fett-wannabes (a largeandloudsubset of BHs) would have the patience or inclination for it.
However, you ideas are interesting. Have you thought about pitching a slightly modified version of your "universial" weapon to Smugglers? Of course in the interests of balanced play, it would have to be toned down ifSmugglers got such a weapon. On the other hand, perhaps this could be worked into a Marksman/Weaponsmith hybrid....
Certain weapons do certain damage.
Change weapons if you want to change damage. How a Light LIGHTNING cannon would do - oh - stun damage - doesn't make sense. LIGHTNING = ELECTRICITY - or were we asleep that day in science class??
Again, another BH who wants it all, without having to spend skillpoints.
