Thread: What Skills are Hunters Taking?

Aside from scout skills what do hunters use?
Are melee professions favored over ranged? Do you use pets? What type of tactics do you use for hunting?
Sorry for the wide scope of questions. I am just trying to find a profession I might enjoy in SWG after being away for a while. I prefer ranged fighting in SWG and have traditionally used my pets to keep targets at bay. I recently dropped Carbine for Rifle and I am enjoying it. Do you scouts find it is practical to hunt without creatures for tanks? I could use a combat droid but then I cannot use a harvest droid (which I really like to have).

Well I'm master ranger master pistoleer. I'm cant solo crap, basically. I can take down yellow, sometimes red creatures if they are not to level, using my PvE tactic, traps and terrain. But in my hunting exp, and hunting with many other types of hunters, TKM and Rifleman seem to be the best, most efficient combos, espeically for solo hunting.
A master Ranger and TKM can solo pretty much anything you are going to need to hunt for high end resources to sell.They can do it reasonably quick and efficient. The rifleman can also do a pretty good job of soloing higher end critters, but IMHO its a bit slower then a TKM. The rifleman has use more tactics, be careful not to pull more then one, and keep it at range. But a good rifleman, using /takecover and /conceal and /concealshot, is freaking awesome. Ultimate sniper. But you need patience.
Right now with current game, and if I just wanted the most efficeint combo to hunt and harvest, I would do TKM/Master Ranger.

I am a rifleman, and I find usually that the level of the critters that I am hunting generally - voritors, rancors, fambaas, etc. - is sufficiently high that any pet that I can have as a non-CH is going to be a two second meatshield, not even worth calling.
As a master rifleman, most of these critters won't be able to get near you if you've got a good weapon. I can clear out an entire Rebel detachment headquarters in about 2 minutes even having them all aggroed on me if I'm buffed and have a good jawa.
Overall, if you want to tank - go melee. If you just want to kill, rifleman is your ticket.

Hawe you even tryed rifleman or is this something you are guessing when i do missions i equip my t-21 and just spam flushingshot2 thats the riflemans area attack its coned so if you attack the creature in the fron everything behind it takes damage too and targeting the lair and spaming flushingshot2 kills absolutely everything around the lair

Well, I suppose I should chim in.... For hunting I normally solo, without pets (trying to find a really good havesting droid on Wanderhome), and I use carbines exculsively. Yeah, yeah I know that's about as rare as a Master Ranger, but you to can join the ranks of the few, the proud, the masocistic!
