Thread: How does the +trapping mod work?
I am a Teras Kasi master who has decided to go for ranger to compliment it. I am currently working on getting to master scout, but I'm getting rather annoyed with trapping.
I can't seem to hit anything larger than a scyk with them, wich is extremely annoying since I can handle much higher level creatures, being tkm.
Now do I understand correctly that the ability to hit a creature is linked to the +trapping skill mod? And if so, does the number represent the level of the creature that you can hit with it?
Any insights into this would be very aprectiated.
But in answer to your other question: Yes, you can use the wire mesh trap over and over with full effect everytime it's successful in hitting.
Kayt,
Take a look at my From Novice to Master Guide, the section on trapping.
Your trapping +mod increases your likelihood for a trap to work when you throw it, versus different creatures. But if you are a low level trapper - Level 1 or 2, you aren't going to be able to hit the big boys just yet. Also, while you can throw Wire Mesh's over and over, this isn't recommended. They're a low level trap, and if you trying doing that against the biggie critters, they're never going to work.
So hit the lower level creatures - gnorts, sycks, nightspiders and other similiar lower level (below CL 16) - until you make it up to trapping 3 and get most of the good traps. At that point, start hitting the tougher guys.
Always be sure to throw every trap that you can make every time - that increases your liklihood to hit and get the XP you need.
And don't bother with the Ranger traps - they're borked. We're waiting for a total Ranger trap redesign that's in the works but has been postponed for a while because of the Player Cities/Mounts/Vehicles additions.
