Greetings,

Maybe someone has figured out this already since I haven't been able yet. When you set a camp (provided i find where i can set camp) do you get XP towards that particular scout skill? I've been able to get my Scouting up to the next lvl from harvesting resources from what i've killed, but I haven't been able to figure out how to get any XP in Trapping and Basic Fundamentals (i think that's what they are in the Skill tree). As of now you must gain 1000 XP in each of the beginners skills just to move on. Any ideas?

To get trap xp you have to make traps and then use them in combat. I have been using the dart and each time you throw it and it is successful you get 59xp. I put the trap on my tool bar so I have a quick hotkey in battle. Each dart can be used 5 times.

For wilderness survival you must make camp. The xp you get is based on how many people use it and how long it is up. There is a small datapad by the tent which you can examine to tell you how long the camp is up and how many visitors. Since your basic camp can only be used by one person at a time, I usually just sit there waiting for my wounds to heal. I got like 320xp for my first camp that I had up for like 10-15 minutes.

Hope this helps. Go scouts!!

Uh, basic camp isn't too pretty to look at, but it does the job. And my record, when a small group stumbled upon my group's camp, is six people at once.

smh37 just about covered it. Some small points to add:

Wilderness Survival xp is awarded once the camp is disbanded or abandoned. More wounds healed, more time spent, & more people visiting = higher xp. Each type of camp up the tree has a higher xp cap.

You can throw multiple trap types at a single creature and get Trapping xp for all of the traps that hit. If it's not an "every hit counts" battle, go ahead and lob one of each type of trap you can make, even if you don't need all the effects, and your Trapping xp will go up quite quickly.

Also, going all the way up the Exploration line before you get Hunting skills will let you start earning Scout xp from using /maskscent sooner. The high Camouflage skillmod you will have by Exploration IV will make /maskscent succeed quite often against higher con aggressive creatures.

My question, do I need other people to use my camps to get exp? Or will it work just by myself?

You will get some experience if you (and only you) use the camp.

You could, for example, set up a camp while you're sampling (assuming you're an Artisan, too), and just sample in the camp.

I never hunt with anyone, or have not had the need to yet. Everytime I go out I make sure I have 3 or 4 campsites ready to go. If I hunt till I get about 10 to 15 health bar wounds, I sit in a camp for about 14-18 minutes, Making new traps and such, and I get 600 exp. everytime. That is the cap I have found. Sat once for 30 minutes, but still only got 600 exp. Remeber thats by myself though, no visitors. On average if I dont want to wait that long I sit for 4-6 minutes and get about 340-380 exp. Just a little heads up for all the number crunchers out there. Always set up a camp when you have wounds to heal, and make sure you have more than just a couple of nicks and scratches. Helps when you disband the camp for the exp.

If you are new to SWG and have not soaked up all the info in the manual yet here is a simple bit of info: -

Tip for those like myself that have the memory of a goldfish, Lol, is use Ctrl + S to bring up your skill tree and hover over the respective branches and levels within the branches. This tells you what you need in terms of skill points and xp type for that selection.

By clicking on any selection example Hunting I or Survival II, then in the windows below the tree you will see which mods and which new commands you gain plus items you can craft. Each will also have a hovering informationdialogue box.

See those clever devs thought of us goldfish too.

Hope that helps some.

quick tip on camping. Take novice medic skills. tend your own wounds while you're in your camp, and you'll find your survival XP flying right along. takes a fraction of the time, and you can still max out your camp XP.

I don't think you get the XP from a camp if you just leave it. To disband it you'll see a panel appear next to your tent. holding down your left mouse button it will give you a radial menu that you can choose disband camp. It'll also let you see how long it's been up and how many visitors you've had.
