if i learn exploration 4, do i get less experience from mask scent? should i fill out my hunting tree first?

You do get less experience per hit, but you get far more hits than Exp 3 so it is worth getting before you go for hunting. Just head to Lok at exp 3 and in a couple hours you will have enough to finish out Exp 4 and the rest of your Hunting skill levels.
