Well, I know it may sound lame, but I would really like a few tips on midlevel hunting. I figured this was an all-around request, so I posted here instead of the Ranger forums.
Anyways, my home is on Talus, and I figured, since JB, our corr, lives their, he probably knows his way around.
I spend hours looking for/tracking soawns, but I cant ever find anything. Even on Naboo, I will find a spot one day (The ridge northof Keren) and it will have tons of good spawns, but the next day, its all gone. Anyone got any tips to get me started in the right direction with freehunting? I am only a 1111 rifleman, and don;t use buffs, so I cant really attack any biggies.

From what I gather, spawn rates are based on the number of players in the area. Sometimes it can feel like you are the only person on Rori, and during those times you can go kilometers without seeing so much as a squill. When my city has several people in it, I have no problem finding Ravenous Tortons, swamp cats, squills, or anything else. During those times where nothing is spawining, I head to POIs (pygmy torton cave etc...) not much for harvesting (1 unit) but still full harvesting (and trapping?) XP from the creatures. So I would suggest either finding a populated planet, or heading to a known good POI.

Tip one - Take a mission as far away from where you are standing. Ride out. Do mission. Walk back. The creatures you spawned in your wake will pop in as you wander around.
Tip two - Walk around. You will cause spawns.
Just becuase you saw 600 torturs on Talus between point A and B yesterday doesn't mean doodly. Today they could all be spawns of fynocks. Or humbabas. Or my favorite of all time, rasps. There is no rhyme nor reason to what spawns when or where. Though there are some static spawn sites around. A crashed landspeeder thingy near my city always has fynocks.
I walk from Dearic to my city (2500m west/southwest) all the time. I usually find lower level spawns all over the place. Recently it has also been savage humbaba and beserk kamurra week on the Discovery Channel. Not great xp, but xp nevertheless. I don't have to buff to wander around Talus. Only do so when the Drall/BInyare/Chunkers side with the Lost Aqualish and they all attack me while I am attacking the Savage Humbabas. (That was actually a fun fire-fight come to think of it)
Just wander, you will find stuff

thats generally what i do too. my house is 2km from dearic so i start there and walk to dearic, then i turn around and walk to nashal. finally i walk back to my house from nashal.
good xp, and most of the time i find something good or even great to hunt. (i like those big turtlelooking things).
this is generally my hide hoarding routine.
big key here is get off the speeder and walk around.

Well, I walked from Nashal to The Imperial Outpost to Dearic, then to Nashal again, straight from Dearic, and the best thing that popped up was a decay mite. Really a bummer. Same when I tried Rori.

Interesting thing about the way spawns work is that they are cpu/server work. So, if a planet like Rori is really low on players it will spawn less natural spawns to save on server workload.
Here's an example. There were some great eggs on tattooine a while back on my server. So, I went lair hunting on my bike. I was riding around looking for natural lairs and was finding very few of them. So, I bit the bullet and went and got 2 nuna lairs and searched them for eggs. I then aborted each mission and did it again. After maybe 10 lairs the whole area exploded with spawns. All the missions I was taking were causing more natural spawns. Basically telling the server that someone was there and needed some spawns around.
Take a few missions in an area to get the spawns popping. The busier a planet it is the better the spawns will be.

getting missions to trick the servers in to thinking there are more people there......good idea, i hadn't thought of that.
