Thread: Noob Question abotu Scouts
So what does Scout mean in real skills? The best way you can find out about the skills is to read Brisc's guide up at the top. It has great explanation of all the skills, how you level them, etc. You can't go wrong with those - they are extremely well written.
In my short opinion Scout is an enhancer. It adds dimension and survivability to just about any profession you pair it with. Believe me, if you decide to pick it up and give it a try I do not think you will regret it.

not to mention it gives us an excuse to run around with almost no clothes on, grippinga survival knife while screaming about how we can start fire with a coke can and weave rope made out of the hair on our backs........
*straight face*
what?

Well, maybe if you're a Wookiee or a Bothan that's always shedding or something...

Hakai I think you are confusing your reality with your virtuality again.
As soon as we get a chance to figure out how the new system works, I'm gonna have to update the guide.
That's going to be a crapload of work. Ugh.

From what I can tell, a Scout is a character that can make it on his or her own in the wild, without the needs of a city to protect them.
Skills:
- Mask Scent
- Foraging
- Harvesting
- Trapping
- Camping
- Terrain Negotiation
- Creature Knowledge
- Creature To-hit and Damage bonuse
Mask Scent:
- Lets you harvest milk from "mammals" or "reptilians," unless they have "bull" or "stud" in the name

- Lets you search a lair for eggs without having to kill the creatures or worrying about them attacking you.
- Lets you ignore the dangerous creatures that you would not survive against
- Lets you get in range for a trap throw or a "first strike" attack.
- Gives you the time you need to heal up before going hunting again.
Foraging:
- Currently, all foraged items have +49and +50 regeneration to two different stats on the same item.
- Gives you enough of a regeneration to "slightly" reduce recovery times between fights.
Harvesting (Bones / Hide / Meat):
- The real money-maker for Scouts and Rangers. Professions that use these organics are Artisans,Chefs, Tailors, Armorsmiths, Medics, and Bio Engineers.
- You need these organics to build your traps and camps, and large quantities can be used to create factory crates of them.
Trapping:
- This skill allows you to modify a target creature to allow you to defeat them more easily.
- They apply states such as dizzy and stun, and also poison the target causing a gradual decrease of their health pool.
- As traps become more complex, the amount of resources needed increase as well.
Camping:
- Camps allow a "safe" place to rest while on a hunt. Right now, they serve as a mobile medical clinic with notably lower rates of healing in comparison.
- Camps have also been used to "Debug" certain situations that include terrain - enemy overlaps. This has been advised on occasion by CSRs to fix the problem of acorpse being moved underneath the map terrain.
- Camps also enable you to call a vehicle or a pet without the 15 second delay, as if it was done in a city.
Terrain Negotiation:
- With bonuses to this skill, you have a good advantage at out-running an enemy over the rugged terrain of planets. This is particularly useful in escaping from an npc or creature that you cannot defeat on an advanced planet. With a high enough skill in this, you could out-run a swoop bike while on foot!
Creature Knowledge:
- Currently, this ability only allows you to see whether the creature is tamable, aggressive, and stalker.
- You can also determine what types of resources are dropped from it. This is useful if you are completing a harvesting contract for a crafter who requires a specific type of hide, bone, or meat.
Creature To-hit and Damage Bonus:
- This gives youa small bonus to fighting against creatures, whether it is in melee or ranged combat.
This is what I can tell so far. Each ability is important, but on different levels and in different situations.
