Thread: A Newbie Puts the the Fun Back in Scouting
It's been very interesting reading all these posts about maskscent, etc.
I tried to use maskscent and realized that I'm not high enough level to even use it.
But, I have noticed that by keeping an eye on my radar and using the prone/crawl through grass and bushes, etc, I can get the feel of a scout!!! I may not be gaining lots of XP and quickly moving up the ranks, but I am savoring the moments because it feels so Star Wars to me and very real.
Today, I crawled passed some Red hard to fight bad guys. And after getting attacked an incapacitated by 3 ram-like creatures (who someone could attack me even though they never caught up to me--I was running and gunning) because I destroyed a rock for some xp. Anyway, a big dinosaur looking thing (red) was slowly lumbering by me RIGHT AS I AWOKE. I remember thinking, "Crap. What luck! I'm going to wake up and then be attacked/incapacitated immediately again, and if it happens a 3rd time I will die." But, I just laid prone and he passed VERY VERY close to me. I then slowly crawled in the opposite direction until I felt far enough to stand up and run. Maybe it's because I'm a Bothan and somehow blend in to the scenary. Maybe I'm just imagining that I'm somehow a super scout who can blend in with the background. But I tell you, if you use the prone & crawl, you can avoid the NASTIES!
I guess what I'm getting at is I'm able to role-play and enjoy the star wars universe by just avoiding the bad things. If I'm not earning real experience points, I'm gaining experience as a player in how to successfully avoid things. I think this is the true pleasure of being a scout, not trying to push up and push up xp to get to a new level. I'll get their slowly and surely. But the whole time, I feel like I'm the most cunning secret agent-like Snoopy-behind-enemy lines scout there is. Even though I've only ever harvested one creature and only ever fought with 3 (and were incapacitated by 2 of those encounters).
Holla back if you feel me. Otherwise, try to change your state of mind...

That is a neat story - i remember the first time i had to stealth run past singing mountain clan skanks/jerks. I got db'd of course a few times - and then had my corpse camped for approximately 2 hours before i ran headlong into a pack - spammed corpse - got my stuff - and made enemies for life (i had to part with a NICE scout blaster i had just bought - cuz my inventory was full). This in turn motivated me togrind trees to get more advanced weapon skills. The novelty wears off once you realize you are no match for cooler loot mobs. I have no doubt - youll be in a hurry sooner - or later. Once you get p-i-s-s-e-d enough.
