Thread: Changing vehicle calling to make camps worth it.

This is an idea I had in my head when I was watching Ep III last night and it would go something like this.

When out in the wild calling a vehicle takes a minute. Then say every level on camp reduces the wait time by 10 seconds until it reaches 0.

Am I way off base here? I just thought it would be a way to bring back some of the usefulness of camps and make us more then just creature harvestors.

Before the great camp nerf of '04, you could not call your pet or mount AT ALL in the field unless you were in a camp, and there was no wait. As it stands right now, if you put up a camp, there is still no wait, but rather than make camp, people would rather wait the 15 seconds.

Oh wait - I see - you propose to raise the wait time from 15 seconds to 1 minute. And then have the level of the camp subtract from that time. I still see this as making the lower level camps a lot less useful while not really adding much to our higher level camps.

The only thing that would make them useful is a modular design, including radar concealment modules.

I think that idea would never go through, because of the amount of people who would definitely complain about a 45 second increase in their own wait time for another profession's ability to gain usefulness (again.)

If they increase the wild call time to one minute, people will raise hell, so it'll never happen. :/

I just carry around a crate of Basic Camps to drop just to pop my swoop up fast in dangerous areas.

So, by making things inconvinient, people will love camps again? I don't think so. It was great when they finally removed the requirement to have a camp to call vehicles. Why should our camp's only (well, besides healing) functionality be as a garage?

To me, that would be like using a SWAT team as School Crossing Guards. Sure, they can get the job done, but it is a waste of resources.

Oh yeah...thanks for coming up with new ideas. They are welcome, while not always embraced! Plus, it gives us something to talk/think about.

Meesa no think so.

There were good reasons for eliminating the camp calling requirement when it happened. For one thing, penalizing players for failure to invest 15 SP in novice scout when they wanted to call a vehicle in the middle of nowhere on Endor orDathomir was just plain wrong. Especially given that at the time this change was made, vehicles had an annoying habit of poofing out from underneath you. Do not get me started on pets poofing on you in combat, either, if you're wise.

For another thing, having to toss up a camp to call was a royal PITA onheavily populated and built up worlds like Corellia and Naboo where you constantly had to find the right spot far enough away from building or lair to call a vehicle or a pet.

Finally, there was NEVER an adequate explanation of why a camp was required. The devs kept mewling about some sort of terrible griefing exploit that they could not explain that required CHs to not be allowed to call pets in the wild, but nevertheless was not present when CHs called pets in metropolitan areas. Presumably this had something to do with PvP but no logical or reasoned explanation was ever offered.

As a matter of fact, due to a coding error, for about three to four months after release if you had a house and had declared residency, you could call pets at will in the wilderness, because someone got their< and > signs mixed up. No one seemed to be able to find the magical griefing exploit that caused the devs to wring their hands in anxiety that someone might be griefed while they pointedly ignored real griefing problems like load ganking.

So, in conclusion...meesa no think so.

like the others, I'll say no. But, like Calc said (and I'm sure the others were thinking) we ALWAYS appreciate imput. Sometimes, new players weren't around for the way things were, or they haven't had the time to read all the ideas that've already been given and we vets tend to sound condecending. I assure you, we love hearing imput and any and all ideas that you may have. Some we may not agree with, some we may, but we always enjoy intelligent discussion.

So keep typing those ideas up as they come into your head. You may suggest the next brilliant idea that we all talk about for months.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.
