Thread: Do I understand this right, you can't do scout, later?

I always intended to be a master scout. I mastered Marksman and went deep into my carbine trees.

To break things up, I decided to do my Scout boxes. Well I had more than enough Scout points to max out three of the rows and I even have enough Scout points to become master scout.

But trapping I had zero. No problem, I made some traps and set out to do that row as well. But what do I find? It's impossible for me to get more than one trapping point no matter what I try. I can't make a trap work on anything near my level. (I am at level 28 right now.)

So it's impossible for me to be a master scout right? I can't see any way around it and I'm not giving up any of my skills because combat points are hard to get.

Is there any work around? I'm not going to make and throw 10,000+ traps to get this at one point each.

Any help for me? Thanks.

Get in a group. Find a creature with a CL near 80.

PUT AWAY YOUR CARBINE.

Trap only, let the other group members drop the creature. Use as many wire mesh as you can at first, then build up. You will get really good trap XP, but only if you do no other damage to the animal.

He'll will probably end up tossing 10,000+ traps anyway. As I understand ita level 28 novice scout tossing traps at a level 80 creature will have to have a huge lot of luck to makeany of thetraps stick.

The reason it may work fornovice rangers is that they already have 50 trapping. A novice scout only has 5.

I have tried this and it didn't work. I hooked up with a high level player on Dathomir and we were attacking cl80 creatures and I never, ever got a single trap to connect. I wish that would work.

The only option right now is to either drop you combat skills, or throw a hella lot of traps. The developers are aware of this issue... but that is all they've been able to tell me. No ETA for fixing.

You might want to see if you can get some trapping food dweezel and see if that makes any difference, but i think 28 is too high for even that to help when you have no trapping boxes. Perhaps ask on the trade forums and see if anyone has trapping attachments. I have never seen any myself, but i know all sorts of new attachments came in with the CU.

Sorry I can't be more help.

Well at least the devs are aware of this. I just recently tried gaining trapping skills on a cl 19 toon and he can't trap anything above cl 14. At least after a few tries he can trap cl 11s now to just find a crew with a cl = or lower than mine. If only the devs added in some kind of trapping multiplyer in the novice box that would multiply your trapping skill by your cl.

I'm really glad I just joined recently, so I don't really have to worry about this problem as long as I keep up with trapping. However, I can see how frustrating it would be in a scenario like this. There really seems to be no real fix besides what other players have suggested, but good luck with your problem, and I really hope the devs fix this soon!

You could try the following:

Find a high level melee partner willing to be a punch-bag. Preferably one with medic skills.

Edit: Do NOT group with your partner.

Go out and find the lowest level creature that still cons green to you.

Have your partner switch of the auto attack and taunt the creature. He or she should NOT do any damage to the creature.

Switch off your auto attack. Throw traps at the creature until at least a few traps worked. Then kill the creature. Your partner should retaunt and heal you when needed. (Healing yourself probably reduces trap XP)

This may probably get you the first box aftersome timebecause it only needs 1000 XP.

However, the next box needs 5000 XP and the third 15000 XP. That might take a while.

Unfortunately, the last box needs 70000 XP !!

I'm not 100% sure this method works well but it's worth a try. (edit: this may only work upto a certain combat level.)

I'm using the same method to get trapping xp. Though I use two computers at once. One has my CL 80 doctor/swordswoman, the other my scout. Allicia, the scout, is CL 14 and has 3343 in scout, xx3x in medic and 4x4x brawler. I throw traps at creatures at or above my level. CL 15+ give 911 weapon xp. To get at least250 to 300ishtrapping xp I have to succeed in trapping with about 10 or more traps. It's very tedious and very time consuming. (Not to mention the need for quick reactions to retaunt and heal!)

Edit: forgot to mention that trapping XP gets deducted from the weapon XP. (for those who didn't know that yet).

I'm working on a new toon and want to make it a ranger. I've gotten to Scout 4044 when I discovered this thread.

Can you still buy xp with faction points? A lame work-around I know, but I'm just wondering.

There's one last respec coming with Publish 18, so grind up some boxes in something else to use as fodder or transfer over some of your Scout xp boxes so you can at least respec around this problem when you have the chance. No ETA on Pub 18 that I've seen- probably go to TC this week and live next Friday I'm thinking, but I could be wrong.

perhaps a trap droid? they seem to have their own trap skill level separate from the player's. which means they might be able to trap a bit higher CL.

the separate skill level of the droid is what also makes it useless to a ranger.. since the ranger's skill is so much higher.
