Thread: Trap's and what they do ?
and what they do
which traps are better for what some can Stun and stuff
what is a good trap for Stunning/slowing a Mob dont some have a Damage over time
what is the best to use?
are there any things you can do when crafting to make them Better?
I'm only at Trapping I so can't give first hand info, but if you have a look at http://swg.allakhazam.com/db/abilities.html?mode=Schematicand check the description of each trap you will get a good idea at what they do. Some of them also differ in whether they deal action, mind, body, or a mix, so you can pick the one that best works for your weapon skill.
I've not really worried about crafting bonuses so haven't looked if different quality parts have any affect. Right now I'm just chucking them at whatever I can. ![]()
Which traps are best for you all depends on your weapon. As a rifle/swordsman combination, I LOVE Lepracine Darts, Sharp Bone Spurs, and Noise Makers. Cap them a few times with the rifle, trap them on the way in, and beat them down.
If you're a Carbineer, you should go with action modifying traps.
If you're a Pistoleer, go with ones that hurt health.
And one big thing, don't waste your time throwing a Glow Juice trap if you're solo. You will instantly agro the mob, and then the ranged vulnerability is almost useless.
Deck,
Here we go:
"I have been wondering about traps and what they do"
Let's hope we answer your questions for you here.
"which traps are better for what some can Stun and stuff"
Adhesive Mesh: Immoblizes a creature for a short time and damages action
Glow Juice: Makes a creature more succeptible to ranged attacks
Glow Wire: Makes a creature more succeptible to ranged and melee attacks
Lecpanine Dart: Makes a creature "dizzy", with small loss to mind and health
Noise Maker:"Stuns" the target and damages the mind pool
Phecnacine Dart:Slows the creature down
Sharp Bone Spur:Damages a creatures mind pool (but does not kill)
Stink Bomb:Makes the target mores succeptible to "stun" and "intimidate"
Wire Mesh:Makes a creature more succeptible to melee attacks
"what is a good trap for Stunning/slowing a Mob dont some have a Damage over time"
For stunning, use the noise maker. For slowing the mob down, use Pecnacine and Adhesive Mesh.
"what is the best to use?:
I love Adhesive Mesh, Noise maker and Sharp bone spur.

You can try to experiment on them. but so far our experiments in doing this have been inconclusive. Some claim they hit more often. Others say they don't. It's probably not worth the extra effort.

I recently create a new character, and thought it might be fun to try using a sword. I had been a ranger before, and when I learned that the Novice Brawler had a knockdown move, my first thought was, hey, I'll start all my attacks with the L.Dart (gives dizzy).
http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=fencer&message.id=3142
Then, I noticed that no matter what, whether these looooow level creatures ( Talusian Paralopes, fearful youth fynocks ) would get posture changed to kneeling, or even laying down, they would stand up, no problem. So I decided to do some research, and came to the thread above. Herelet me quote.
"It's not bugged. The trick[dizzy] only works on humanoids (or most creatures with two legs only)."
I know currently ( I know, eventually it will change ) one of the traps that doesn't work in the ranger line, was an Area of Effect (AoE) dizzy trap. If the statement above is true, these traps are the most useless pieces of crap out there.
Read between the lines, Scout traps only effect creatures, they don't affect humanoids at all. I've been around the galaxy, traveled to several planets, seen many pets, the only 2-legged creatures that I can think of are, Cu-Pa, Graul, and a Rancor. I've never fought a Graul or a Rancor, but I somehow doubt a L.Dart is going to do much good against one of those beasties. Correct me if I'm wrong, but are L.Darts now completely useless? (maybe good for getting trapping xp, but that has got to be one of the easiest xp to get)
Glow wire, Phec dart, and Adhesive mesh are my most used traps.
I use the glow wire most often just to provide a bonus for my pet and I to have a hit bonus on the creature for melee and ranged attacks. I use phec dart when i want to slow a creature down or an adhesive mesh to stop it in its tracks. Both these are helpful when i get agroed and want to get some space between me and the creature. Also they work well when a group member gets attacked and needs some help getting away.

I tried L. Darts on Womprats tonight.
Whether or not they are considered 2 legged creatures by the game engine is unknown to me however visibly they are 2 legged and if the L. Darts had any effect on them at allthen it was extremely minimal as I wasn't able to notice any change in their behavior. Each of them did incur the dizzy affect as far as the targetting window was concerned.
So that is at least one creature that possibly fits the criteria for the L. Darts that is not effected by them.
Lownewulfe, I didn't think about those guys. So I guess that might be useful, I'll try and test that.
Thanks

Drez,
If L. Darts work for you on womprats please respond here if you don't mind. As i said above my testing showed no change in their stance but it was late and I was practically comatose.
Thanks

Out of curiosity, can we experiment on traps? I've been meaning to try but it never occurs to me in town.
I have - ya get all of 1 experiment point to use... I've noticed absolutely no effect - don't know whether that's due to just having 1 point to spend or if it doesn't actually do anything. I've asked before, but haven't heard of any of us who get more than 1 point to experiment on traps/camps.
