I been thinking of future proffesions that i think would be cool to see in the game and add a new style of play.
The Rancher profession, off the hunting tier of Scout.
How it would work is that a rancher would have a new building (a ranch, probably a little building with a fenced area) that requires x number lot(s) to house the critters he uses to harvest resources. The ranch would be created by an Architect, and the critters would bepurchased from BE and/or CHand/or reproduce when you have two or more able to mate.
Each tier would be different type of harvesting of the animals. Bone, Hide, Meat, and possible horn, or crustation, even maybe fish farms. The higher in the tier, the more creatures that you can have on the ranch, more units you could harvest, and the larger the ranch could be. (This is still all under revisement, just ruff ideas)
Other possiblities in the profession would be trading animals with BE and CH for pets and dna.
I see this profession helping out on the lack of many of the resources asked of you and rangers that are very tedious and boring to get. Also be kinda cool to speed by a farm and see a bunch of tortons grazing inside a big electric fence. lol. Also, you could harvest dathomir hide on Rori, since you have your ranch on Rori and your beasts have been either cloned or raised there.
I think this would be a great new profession if they also bring in the mining profession on a new expansion. The expansion i am hoping has ground combat vehicles, which in turn will drive up more resource requirements.
Just wondering what you guys think about it. i am sure it has been brought up before.

Oh hell no.
This can be a CH feature. We do not tame, we kill. Kill, poppy on PETA, unless you mean People Eating Tasty Animals. I don't care about creatures, want to clean pens, milk them, no way Jose'. All I care about is herd habits, BAF habits, and where I can find them to KILL AND HARVEST. I kill mom, dad, the kids and the neighbors if I can. And its better xp. And I use my lots for important stuff, like a huge freaking house to store my harvest in, a yacht to travel to planets where i can harvest animals, and harvestors to get steel and stuff to make traps so I can kill animals easier.
This idea has been flamed so many times, it needs Nomex underwear.
If you are bored with Scout stuff, go be a CH. Find out what boring is...here boy, don't bite my feeble azz. Stay, sit, roll over and play freaking dead.... save me from the tedium of a truly useless profession. Here, do a trick. Whoopee doodle, it hopped.
Ranching = poopy on your boots. No thanx

As said in the movie Seven by Morgan Freeman, "It's impressive to see a man feeding off his emotions."

Nah, just grates to see people think that because we kill em, we have an affinity with them and want to raise them for a living.
CHs maybe. Scouts/rangers - no.
If I was not helping to support and supply half the town I live in, I wouldn't even have a house. I could use my yacht to hold all my "stuff" - mainly loot from all the quests I have run and 65 or so crystals I got laying around.
Would have been even nicer had the poster done a search - could have seen the flames from the first 25 posts of this nature.

Look,I'm gonna try and be "nice" about this.
You're not the first one to think of this. It has been proposed (and proposed, and proposed) more times than I care to count on the BE, CH, Ranger and scout boards and basically what it comes down to is that we only need one novice and one elite profession to harvest. Honestly, if you want to collect resources, be a scout or a Ranger.
There are no magical harvesters for organics-- excluding milk, perhaps. And that I'm fine with. But bone, hide and meat-- are ALL hand collected. Oh and HORN? how the heck do you auto-harvest HORN? and why? it's never used. Ever. collecting it would be pointless. Basically, there is no reason to make another profession to satisfy the people who can't handle actually having to play the game and who want to auto-harvest so they can go do other stuff.
Okay, um... back to the niceness.
Mineral resources can be auto-harvested because they are used more. No schematic requires as much organics as a large house. Organics are used in smaller numbers in schematics. Hence, they need to be more rare. Hence...there needs to be a challenge to collect them. Hence, standing in a farm goes against what the game needs.
I aplogize if we seem agitated over this...it's just that we hear this idea again and again, and it get tiresome to explain why making harvesting EASIER and less dangerous, along with stepping on the toes of Rangers,is pretty much a bad idea. I mean, I know you don't think so, and you probably think we're all just being stubborn. But seeing as how Rangers are already underpowered and can often be out-harvested per hour by combat stackers with a few scout skills, there is no reason to take from Ranger even more. At this point I just can't comprehend why anyone actually thinks harvesting needs to be dumbed-down for the short-bus crowd.
