Thread: DEVS Here's what's WRONG with scouts...
Now, seeing that the scout xp ratio is favorable for newbie mobs (around 1:2 scout xp per pistol xp) this is the fastest possible way to get scouting xp. "Tough" cons give about 300 pistol and less than 100 scout (usually 79, so less than 1:3 ratio.) I was therefore getting max scout xp per pistol xp earned soloing.
During the time I did this, I would have come nowhere close to being able to afford MASTER scout by the time I got Pistol Spec. I belive it's possible somehow, but I just don't understand how you filled the Hunt/Exp/Master scouting xp requirement to get Master before leaving the Marksman tree. Were you using other weapons?? Again, seeing how I was doing this the most mathmatically efficient way, I just don't get how you did it THAT much faster. Your milage somehow varies from mine.
My kills were primarily on the north side of Mos Entha - where there are about six 5-7 mob groups within a short distance of one another. I killed some in one shot, others with 2, occasionally my storm trooper friends helped once I engaged the mobs. The respawns are so fast here (where there aren't any warrens or mob camps) that one side would re-pop while I finished the other. I did it almost as fast as humanly possible to operate they keybaord.
Any insight on how our techniques differ?

Can we try and have this conversation WITHOUT bringing up maskscent.
Maskscent aside there are a lot of things wrong with scouts.
Just list good and bad points. I am almost a master scout and I really don't care because all I can really do is run REAL fast, and vehicles will be here soon so WHO CARES
As someone who plays a scout, I think the original post in this thread is off the mark also.
No, the scouting profession does not do everything. Noscouts cannot train as well in weapons as say perhaps a someone who focuses purely on melee or ranged combat. And they should not be able to. Those classes who do that foresake some of the specialization the scout gets. The balance is there.
Like another scout here said, it is possible train scouting up to a tamer or ranger, have useful skills from those trees, and *also* train as a carbineer or pistoleer. A scout can have a very profitable career going those paths. Granted maybe he or she can't heal or use multiple weapon types, but hey, that's why classes are balanced to rely on each other. Make a friend of a field medic and take them along on your adventures. They'll appreciate your scouting ability to make camps for them in the field.
The primary posts author seemed to view the scout class as something someone trains entirely without training any other specialities. The comment about being stuck with the entry level blaster seemed to indicate that. I hope everyone realizes that it is possible to be a scout and right from the start of the game find a trainer and also train marksmanship so you can work on the pistol or carbine as part of your training. You dont have to just train scouting if you select scout as a starting profession.
In my view, someone who is mastering in scout and ranger also should not be able to be a medic and be a master brawler and a master marksman if they can doother useful skills. The original author seemed to be asking for it all in my view, albeit in many more words. Unfortunately that is a typical frustration that I think many long time MMORGP players recognize as a sign of younger/newer playerswho feel the need to beuber at everything as opposed to just being happyfilling a particular niche role. I understand it, and its to beexpected I guess. I think people who take MMORPGs less seriously and play it for the role playing can appreciate being a specialist who isnt uber in everything a bit more.
Hey
I am a pure board Lurker, and never post but like to read peoples PoV and ideas.
I just felt that I had to post here.
I'm confused with everyone's idea of slow exp. I am a casual gamer and play 1-2 hours 3 days a week and perhaps a bit more at the weekend. I currently have Explore III and Hunting III and elite pistol from marksman tree.
I am able to kill quite a lot of creatures and I am steadily working my way through the Valerian missions on Mos Eisley and haven't really run across any problems withthose either.
Now my point. The Maskscent nerf is bad. We all know that, so do the devs, so don't worry about that as they will have a fix for it. Traps work fine, ok sometimes they work, but they are crafted. I know my DIY isn't the best in the world and I make things that don't always work, so that's acceptable.
Scout exp.... This is a dodgy subject. I personally don't have a problem with it. OK I get 45-50 scout exp for most of what I kill and harvest, but it's just the 2nd / 3rd week of release.....What's the hurry? Given I look to play this game for the next couple of years ( played EQ for 5 years unfortunately
) I know I will be bored if I get to Master CH in the first 2-3 months....
I am a very casual player and enjoy the pace of the game so far. Apart from the obvious problems with MS etc I don't see a problem at all. I highly enjoy being a scout and look forward to the day I finally make CH

Scout having fun on Radiant
Well, its my time for my two credits of feelings, lol......
I am finding out that the scout class is one of the most misunderstood classes out there. Lets face it, you have to take Marksmen training or you are just a lame person waiting for someone to kill you. I do not know if the other galaxies are different or not, but my traps really bite, I notice a high error of trapping and little effect on the mobs. Even with Hunt 4, the trap is really a joke if you look at how much xp's it took you to get to level of trap. Depending on group size, alot of times I am better off just shooting the breast then trying to trap it. No xp's for the traps that do set, and if they do they still take bites out of me. The issue with havesting is not just haveing a other scout with you, any of the group could be trapping. They do not have to be with a scout for this to happen. I had to kick people from the group, who would not take turns, then you have the conflict started. lol.....Have not notice anything great getting to Surv 4 also. Maskscent, so what.......it still depends on the level of the breast, and when it works you can kill that creature anyway. No problem having to run from it. (This is the only useful thing I can firgure it good for.) Improve camping kits, ok, its has extra seats and more tents..... just do not leave it for too long.....
Yes its a hard life being a scout, but I agree with the above posts that the scout is something that skills can be replace by another profession. I am hopeing that the Ranger line shows better skills for the wilderness then what skills as a scout has shown so far. later on the artisans will be setting up gun turrets, and installations right next to our camp sites. havesting with machines, and bypassing us completely....
The good point with other skills from other professions, we each can be alittle different from each other. But the end run down the road, withthe skills you received with all four traits filled for an scout, where are we going to be useful. With the radar that each player has, there goes scouting and explorerationadvantage. Camps are useful, but everyone needs to see a entertainer still. Havesting, anybody can do that. Trapping big deal, unless there are good traps down the road for things other then breast. Our traps do not kill. Hehehe, like I said my two credits. Still like the profession, but we do need work compare to the rest. For if we are truely the wilderness craft, how come we are not special out in the wilderness.
Duma, Wanderhome (nice galaxie name for a scout)
I'll tell you, these people who made this game bit off more than they can chew.
They must not even speak to one another when they work on this game.
Case in point...
On the cute little "tips" section as you are loading into your game, I saw a tip that says the following.
Multiple scouts can harvest multiple components from the SAME creature.
Meaning, I guess, I'll take the bones, you take the meat, and charlie over there can have the hide...
SOUNDS LIKE A GREAT IDEA!
And obviously Sony thinks so too...because they added it to the tips screen!
Why can't we actually do it?
Also, I thought the following was an AWESOME solution to the multiple grouped scouts, ninja looting problem. And I thoughtof it long before I saw it in place...
They had it so it would say..."[group] charlie harvested 11 units of Nabboian leathery hide"
Meaning we could know WHO took the harvest, and manage it amongst ourselves and Ninjas couldn't say "I didn't take it..." BUT THE FIX ONLY LASTED ONE DAY
I bet half of you reading this didn't even see or notice its breif appearance, then departure, in the game.
Crazy
What I been told that some scouts have experience this, but I have not seen it myself as yet. Of course I am referring to the mulit scouts harvesting of the game. I was told that even the hunting (harvesting) and Explore was diff xp's by a csr, but I still had to get the 150000 xp's again to get to Master Scout. Now I can see this if a person was not a pick profession at the beginning, but it is a real bummer for the scouts to havest another 150000 twice to get that level done for advancement.
Still the game is about the best game that I have played so far, and maybe after awhile they can settle down and work on the professions. For I am sure their hands are full with mechanics of running this game.
Duma
I will admit harvesting, and scout xp in turn,is a bit slow going, but on the matter of not being able to work in groups, that is why there is a group leader and even a whole class devoted to squad leader. They can establish an order for harvesting in big groups. Even if they dont an agreement is easily established amongst harvesters. If done correctly ths setup works good.
when playing the role ofa leader i always state a set order for harvesting from BIG creatures. If it is missions were doing a good idea is to alway have the mission bearer harvest all resources from the critters at that lair. If everyone grabs missions it will be prety balanced. If someone in the group does not harvest then the order comes into play. It is complicated at first and with groups of people u dont know, but youd be amazed how fast people catch on to the fact that a group will stay efficient for a set amount of time if no one is ninja looting.
If someone is, there is the /group notify harvest command, so you see whos ninja looting. Up to you how you handle the situation.
And another thing. very early in the post it was complained about playing a PURE scout whatever that is
If you read the forums a little deeper, especially the dev tracker youll see that it has been repeatedly stated by the devs themselves, that anyone who does not play a combination of classes or dkill will have a big disadvantage to someone that does.........obviously I believe th words they used where something like
" I believe many user are not playing their characters in the best way possible, or at least not as the game was intended to be played"
i would find Q's post on this but i have to go harvest some hides........no wait the server is down....
