Thread: PSA: Maskscent appears to be bugged again (post-update). Report your experiences with it here...
My Observations as a Master Ranger on Naritus Galaxey.
For the most part, maskscent seems to work. I got XP for a while, but then I capped my Scouting XP so I don't get any more. I was also getting quite a few XP messages when heading out with my PA for some Kryat Hunting. So Conceal was working.
What is "worse" is when maskscent breaks. Maskscent is checked around the 64m range, well outside the standard Aggro range for a lot of the aggro creatures I deal with (Naboo : Sharputs and Snapflies) So when maskscent breaks, I get aggro'ed at 64m. Not at the usual 20 to 30m range. The worse case was when I was Kimo Hunting. I was at the 64m range of the Kimo. There were a few others a few meters closer as we were setting up for the attack. But the Kimo broke my mask and attacked me, even though there were other players closer and without ANY maskscent or conceal. (Not that you can make a Lok Conceal kit.....
)
So in a way. Maskscent can be a greater liablity then none at all.

I was a Master Scout with Wayfaring 3 in Ranger.
I no longer have any ranger skill & will be surrendering Master scout & the two lines not needed for my CH.
There is no reason at all for me to worry about mask scent now. I simply can't go anywhere without being detected. It is wasted points to me.
I was exploring on Corellia for some resources & was popped 4 times in a row, aggro'd 3 of those 4 times, by a crazed durni. All of them no where near others, 1 mob alone dropping my masked scent.
I can't go anywhere on Dathomir without mask scent being broken.
I can't go anywhere on Endor without mask scent being broken.
I have not been broken by a non-aggro mob. So that part seems to be working fine for me.
Frankly I'm really disgusted with the change to mask scent, it's removed my main source of income (taming & selling rather difficult mobs as well as hunting for rare organic resources such as hides & the like) & removed my main source of fun. I can no longer explore with some sense of safety.
Crawling has no effect on my mask scent, I got popped by a bachelor gualama (CL11 I think) while lying prone.
I know of at least 3 other master scouts who are dropping it & keeping only the lines they need for their advanced professions & 2 others who have stopped the progression to master scout because of this nerf.
I'm rather annoyed, frustrated & depressed over the changes.

I have exact the same frustrations as you, and I am considering to surrender master scout and just keep what I need for CH, and then spend those points in a more useful place. I can no longer tame any agro pets no matter what level they are.

You seem to be bareing the brunt of an odd problem here. From my personal experience, Maskscent is now functioning appropriately. Most of the time I'm not getting discovered unless Ioiter around an area too long, or get too close, but if I am careful and move quickly, I generally am not detected.
I am not sure what it is that is now making the experiences of Scouts vary so widely. Some are having no problems (relatively) like me, and others are totally frustrated.
The only thing that I can think of is that we all grew so used to it not breaking at all that the fact that it may be working more along the lines of how it was supposed to be working that its quite a shock.

I used to be able to walk right up to voritors with no problem whatsoever(most of the time, if it broke, I ran like hell).
Now kreetles are breaking my maskscent at like 30 meters, this is just stupid, and I'm a master scout.
I'm not quite to master scout, but I can run within 20m or less of any aggro critter on talus. It has only broken 1 or 2 times since the "big patch" and only once did the creature attack me. I'm getting pretty much the same xp as everyone else who posted. Doesn't seem broken to me.
My problem stems from mask scent breaking on little mobs. It's never worked all that well on the big boys (grauls, rancors, etc) unless I was prone. Now that doesn't even help.
Perhaps I did get used to it working as it was. But if it wasn't meant to work that way, why did it?
I do not get popped when I loiter in an area, I get popped when I am about 100m away from a mob who then rushes across the world at me. I get popped when I am 100m away from most any aggro mob. If I haven't got popped at 100m as I approach I will get popped at 64m.
This is in reality another CH nerf. Now we can't get close enough to tame anything but non aggro mobs. Guess I'll go IMp & get me some AT-STs, then I can drop scout/CH all-together & spend the points in other skills that don't work.

I'm going to do some exploration on Corellia and Dathomir, that should give a nice sample of different aggro mob levels. I will pick an outpost or city, and head out 3000m, doing my best to avoid aggro mobs. I will do this first with MS on, and then repeat with it off. I'll be doing this with ExplorationIV. Maybe we can get to the bottom of this with a little help or clarificationfrom the devs? (oh lord let them hear our pitiful cries of anguish!)
