Thread: What the Novice Scout Needs to Know 3.0 (Updated 04 Oct 2004): FOR NEW SCOUTS AND SWG PLAYERS

being completely new, i don't if this has been addressed or not and i'm frankly to lazy to read through unlimited numbers of posts to find out. why don't the advanced levels of scout traps work on people. a friend of mine was a military intelligence officer who was attached to an SF group and i asked him about wilderness traps that the military teaches (including whether or not they teach them at all). his response was that those (admittedly rare) times when the military teaches trapping skills to recruits they are almost always traps that can be modified to be used against people. with the upper reaches of a scout's traps bearing a military designation it seems to me that they should be able to effect people as well as creatures. tranquilizer darts and mucilage webbing would slow down a person as swiftly (and in many cases more swiftly) as a critter. so my question, why don't these work on people?
The Devs have made it clear to us that in their opinion, Scouts and Rangers are the premiere hunters of creatures in SWG, and that "man hunting" is something that is strictly in the purview of the Bounty Hunters. So this is the reason why we don't get these skills - that's their job. (Granted, they can't use them to attack people now, but this is something that was being looked at. I think we've got a better argument now that BHs don't need trapping for their profession.)

When im making thses traps, i get diffrent messages on theor success, but nothing on stats of the actual trap. Does this affect the trap on the animal im attacking? meaning, if i had a moderate success trap, will its chances of actually working be less?

It is a very nice guide - scouting seems to be extremely popular, so this helps a lot!
I've been working on grinding camp crafting, though, and I don't seem to be getting any XP for it. I also don't get XP for normal crafting, trap making, etc.
Is there a limit to the xp you get? Am I doing something wrong? Or is it just some weirdness for me?
You get it - but you won't see it in the spam across the top of the screen. It just shows up on your bar.
There are caps - double whatever the most XP you've got of your last trained box. So make sure you keep training up when you can.
