Are traps more efficient when better materials (OQ) are used, or is it the same ol same ol when it comes to traps?

Tjad,
A trap is a trap is a trap. There isn't a difference in the XP - you wire mesh a big critter and it sticks and you'll get a ton of XP.
But I generally wouldn't try anything higher than CL 15 with a wire mesh.

I took durnis and then vynocks to get trapping up in scout, once you get trapping III or IV you're more likely to find them actually sticking on higher level critters, until then don't bother - I threw loads of traps at stuff on Dantooine and not a single one actually hit.

That's the problem I had when I did trapping the first time. Took me forever, and I spent about ten hours of game time going on my usual hunts to Endor and Lok, chucking traps, and getting zip XP. Took ages for someone to bother telling me!

one simple way is to engage in combat with a high level mob, im not sure if this would be considered an exploit ( I just thought of it now, honest!). Every mob in SWG will start running away from you when one of their HAM bars reaches a critical level. Start trapping...

I just managed to finish trapping, with the help of some very kind medics. First make as many Wire-Mesh traps as possible, thenI got a mission in Anchor Head for some Servorts. I then went around and asked if there was a medic that wanted to earn some XP and I also offered some credits too (I wanted to get trapping finished). I first killed all but one of the Servorts so that the medic would not get killed, for the remaining Servort I unequiped all my weapons an threw every trap I had at the Servort. As my action bar and health bars dropped the medic healed me meaning that I was able to throw all 60 of my traps at it before I killed it. Each trap gave me 50 points (unless it failed - happens a few times), that is 1200 points per Servort. Once I progressed I then did the same for Bocatts which give 200 points per trap. Worked a treat, also was quite fun as I was creating a job for a medic. It was the teamwork that helped to achieve the goal so I don't think it can be deemed as an exploit.
Also I found that if you build the traps whilst in your camp you get additional Survival XP points too (only about 50 per trap made but it all counts). I am now 4-4-4-3 in Scout with only 1000 Survival XP to go...
Good luck everyone with your profession, hope my information helps.
