One question though: If I don't have a pet or a droid, what happens when things get up in your face? Isn't pistoleer better for closer range than rifle?

Yes. Brawler would be best for the extreme close quarters.

With a good T-21, and SS2 things (mid level content) will rarely get in your face. When they do its not so bad because at MRM you have +160 (MM/MRM = +170) accuracy and a DXR6-b is fairly effective in close quarters for those situations.

But, Master Pistoleer isn't bad because you get a cert for the DE-10 and I've seen some truely nasty looking DE-10s being made lately (400-500 max damage).

now the question is...was that a pure pistoleer or a mix pistoleer/smuggler/BH?

becuase a basic master pistoleer is pretty soggy all by his lonesome.....put him in a group and he's great, but let him scout out himself, and you got some problems......
