Thread: Is poaching a problem?
Let me clarify, in newbieland (100-200m outside town) I take out any and everthing that's in my path, reguardless. That stuff is plentiful and low XP. If someone is going to /tell me off because I took away a big nightspider kill for them I'm going to laugh at them. As far as I'm concerned these creatures belong to NO ONE. This is also a great deal of fun for me, I like the fact that I've reached a level where I can kill these creatures while in full stride and harvest their corpse without stopping or taking any damage.
I don't think I have ever stepped in and taken away someone else's mission kills. I rarely take out random lairs (why bother if I'm not getting paid). I never take out a radom lair if I see blue around it. Occasionally I'll fire on something that is beating the pi$$ out of someone else, even if they don't ask for the help. Usually after the fight is won I'll throw a stim B on the guy to heal him. I feel its an even trade. I get some of his XP and he doesn't have to wait around to heal to start fighting again. I don't like to ask permission, it just seems stupid. A narglatch is mauling a guy and your supposed to casually stand there and say, "So...You want help with that... ?" I have never been told off in the game for stealing kills, so this method has worked pretty good for me. I'm a very generous player, however, I give away more stim Bs than I use and I tip for training, entertaining (not to lazy AFKs) and healing. I try to spread as much goodwill as possible, so I'm not going to be too over conscience with my killing sprees. If I "steal" a big kill and someone gets upset (which I hasn't happened yet) I'll apologize and /tip them 500 credits.
When somebody comes up on a critter that another player has invested time and effort in reducing the critter's HAM, that time and effort desrves to be respected.
The respect can take a number of forms. You can ask to group, if you shoot you can appologize and/or attempt to make amends.
Roz your style of game play is different from mine. Notice I said different, not better, not worse just different. What I appreciate in your style is the attempt to recognize the effort the other person has put out and to compensate him for it.
Chummerz, it takes a big person to appoligize, especially in a public forum like this. If you should ever find yourself on the Kauri server, look me up. I'll group with you anytime (as a hardcore soloist, it not an offer I make very often - grin)
Delta - you have hit the nail right on the head. The golden rule ahould rule in this game. We should encourage it when ever we find it and dis-incet it when we don't.
The golden rule is always a good thing to apply - treat others as you would want to be treated.
But sometimes, it doesn't work. While both you and I don't mind a little help when we're soloing, many other players DO mind. Is it fair to treat them how you wish to be treated when they don't want to be treated that way?
So just be mindful that when you are traversing the wilderness mowing down creatures like Buffalo Bill Cody on the plains, that you aren't inadvertantly killing someone else's critter.
There's an overall lack of politeness in this game, primarily because players have little or no recourse in dealing with griefing players. Thus, we need to police ourselves.
It's not hard to check your radar and make sure you don't see any other players around. Or in worse case, ask.

It's a hard thing to stop, but there are plenty of animals out there. Someone ran up on my carrion spats killing them as they popped out. I figured, "eh, I'll still get paid. Then I can just do more missions." not like anyone is on a regiment here. Do what you can when you can.
Bound to get poached every once in awhile.
I only attack someone else's animals after checking the person's health. If it's low, I help them. If they get incapped, I can heal them up. Then at least I saved them to continue their mission, even though I took their kill.
Best to help when you can, but remember to look on your radar. See animals with a person near them, look for the person, they might have gotten there first. Hell, if you ask, they might even be a noob that needs your help. Poachers do suck a lot, but it's difficult to stop that. People will always be jerks eventually. One can't stop that.
