Thread: Master Scout whats the point
/chuckle
Reading the posts and responses in this forum make me very happy I chose the profession I did. And what do you know, I actually learn a lot about my profession by reading here! I could stand in these forums (not the scout board, just the forums in general) and throw a stick and be guaranteed to hit a Master Scout that knows nothing about this profession simply because they grinded through it to be a BH.
BTW, I made 20K this week in meat alone.
Useless, HAH!
Also, a friendly reminder that utilizing paragraphs helps your readers.

Please do, this isn't the BH or Pistoleer board. Things work different here. We don't have the attitude of: "The devs hate us"/"The devs are out to nerf us". We try to be positive. If we have issues, concerns or ideas about the profession we bring it up in a constuctive fashion. Not: This profession is useless, what's the point?
But it seems to me like to many people are just hunting to the threads to look for a post where they can all shout "griefer", "whiner", or "troll" to have an opportunity to use their new terms they learned from these forums. I was just trying to get a conversation going.
Again, your tone is one of ignorance and whining. You display zero knowledge of the professions, it's abilities or it's skill modifiers. You act like it should help make you uber against other players. Its a supplemental skill. Its not meant to stand on its own. Like most beginning skills. Scout enables you to setup camps, sneak up on creatures and traverse the terrian. Its for explorers. Scout mixed with marksmen are creature killers.
I've now had time to glance over the forums on scouts, and am happy I went straight to the decision to make my own post. Pages are filled with a few out-dated posts, and things that just become... spammy, for lack of a better word.I don't know how the board system works, but is there a way to get those posts removed?
What posts look old? There are some top posts which are sticky notes that Delta (scout correspondent) keeps up at the top. This is usually the latest correspondent update from the devs. There's also some important public service announcements (PSAs) that are there to keep people from creating new posts about the same thing (mask scent not working).
I'm not complaining but as someone who has tried to glance through the forums, those are definately a disuasion to searching for answers instead of making a post yourself.
No one is mad you asked a question, its the tone. If you want to get better answers you need to be more positive. You won't get anywhere in a professional career in the real world with a "I don't understand it therefore it sucks" attitude. Just a tip. You're post would have been much better received had you used a different tone. Your tone was one of general ignorance about the scouting profession. Basically, to me your post said, "I don't understand scout, therefore it sucks."
(I bet someone is going to shout LAZY after that comment). In addition, I'm not a correspondent - I don't want to spend more time looking for infoabout the game and reading forums than actually playing the game.
No there's nothing wrong with asking a question. You're not getting the point. The tone of your post was negative and one of ignorance. If you would have said, "I'm a master scout, but, I don't understand what that gets me, please help and answer some questions." you would have gotten a more positive of a response. Instead you had it set in your head that camps and traps were useless (haw!) and that terrian negoation got you nothing.
Most of us don't have time to read everything on the forums. We depend on each other. I have a professional career a wife and a 9 month old baby girl. Believe me, I have very few moments in the day I can dedicate to SWG.
Anyways, I looked for some of the answers I was searching too, I got better answers in your responses, hopefully those answers can be a help to others as well. In the future I'll make an effort not to post at night-time when I become condescending (even though, I dont think I was that bad).
Well not that bad for someone from the BH or CH boards.
Pretty bad for the scouting board. If you have a question or concern about the profession please post in a constructive manner.
When I reread my two previous posts, I see that I had one main issue. I'm into an elite profession, and suddenly my ACTIVE scout skills become semi-obsolete. I'mno longer actively using scout skills, just enjoying the bonusesbeing master scout provides.I really did forget/overlook the to-hit creature bonuses we have.
I think this is the problem with how BHs are portrayed in the movies and EU and how they function in the game. In the movies they are man-hunters/killers. You would think, next to a Jedi, a BH should be uber in PvP. I used to think this until recently as well. I came to the conclusion that a BH is a well-rounded killer, in SWG. At least as they have it setup now. A BH can kill well in PvP as well as PvE critters and NPCs. Combat classes such as Commando and Pistoleer can/should be slightly better at PvP, but, they don't get the creature killing bonuses. As a BH I can kill everything in the game very well. Not uber, but, well.
A tent issue still: someone mentioned doctors healing wounds inside of them.... I thought doctors can heal wounds anywhere at anytime?
Yes, doctors can heal anytime anywhere. But, there are not a heck of a lot of doctors around to group with.
Medics though... they can still heal wounds in a basic camp kit which you get at camping 1. So why progress? A proposed change would be to actually nerf the basic camp kit. Let it only heal you, and not others, dont let others be able to call pets from it, dont let medics use it as a place to heal wounds. This would create more of a NEED for advancing in the scout tree. I posted another thread about an idea for trapping. Visit it and let me know what you think. Thanks guys.
The more advanced camp kits heal at a higher and faster rate. That's why you would want them. Also, if you solo I can heal faster in my High Quality Camp Kit I got with Novice Ranger than I can with a basic camp kit. Camps are very useful. They aren't the end all be all of healing. But, they shouldn't be. Having a camp is better than not having a camp. You mention how medics can heal you in a matter of seconds. But, if you sustain wounds and heavy damage to your HAM its going to take a couple of heals to get you all better. A medic can't heal constantly, there's delay. During that delay it helps that your camp is helping you heal wounds and that your HAM is regenerating faster.
As a summary. Ask any question you want. Between our first class correspondent, Delta, and all the other master scouts who frequent this board we can answer any question about scouting and rangering you could possibly have. But, please if you have question or concern keep a positive tone and be constructive. Saying, "I don't understand can you please help me" is far better than saying "This sucks! What's this supposed to do?"
I was like you when I started that trek towards novice BH. Scout was just a grind, at first. But, I'm a programmer, and I have a natural curisoity in figuring things out. So I played around with my traps, I read their descriptions. I used my camps as actual healing centers (instead of wasting stim-bs, which I'd rather use in combat when I need them, not between fights), instead of just grinding them. I used maskscent. When I would burst run from something I would bleed them and head towards a hill. Then if I wanted to continue the fight I'd trap them to lower their defenses and/or root them, use supression fire from ranged support IV. I learned how and what my skill modifiers where and how to use them to my advantage and how to combine them with the ones I earned from marksmen and medic. Scouting helps you kill critters. End of story. It HELPS you. Scout alone doesn't do it. You have to have marksmen skills as well.
I want you to try something when you play today: Find something that cons yellow or even something red (a creature). Run up to it and fight it without using eyeshot. Just try using your marksmen skills alone. Healthshot, bodyshot, supression fire. See what that does for you. Now find the same creature. Mask your scent, get within 60-50 meters. Bleed it. Throw a bone spur trap (slows it down) followed by glow juice trap (opens up to ranged attacks). Bodyshot 2 until it starts to head towards you (if it makes it that far), use supression fire followed by an adhesive mesh trap (roots it). Continue to pound on it with bodyshot 2. I bet the creature never makes it to you. You want to kill people? Scouting won't help you. You want to kill creatues? Accept to substitute, master scout is the place to be.
ok here goes....
I used to believe scout was something I only needed to get to CH but the further into the CH tree I got the more I realized that my inital profession was more needed. So I'm slowly plugging away at survival skills now to make the rank of Master scout. the biggest benifit for me to become a master is the ability to examina an animal at range and instantly tell it's CL, the stats, and the secondary beifits of Master will be the ability to make Camps that will reject argo animals not to mention increase the healing rate for anyone in my camps.
As to the Vehicle thing. I could care less if Joe kick boxer zooms past me on his speeder going to a way point the dust he raises adds to my camo as I stalk the prey infront of me. once I'm done hunting I'll pull out my mountain Dewback mount and ride casualy off to the next waypoint.
As a Scout I am going to prefer mounts over the other land based rides anyway. the only Vehicle I'll see a need for will be a ship to go from Talus to Dantooine with out spending 9K each way and having to wait 20 min on shuttles.
As stated by someone else here....Scout may not be your cup of tea, try all the other base professions to see the one you like best.
Currently I am
Creature Handler 1/1/1/2
Pistoleer 0/0/3/1
Master Medic
Scout 4/4/4/3
Novice Bio engineer
The only problem I see what to give up to make Master CH ![]()
If you think Master Scout helps, you should try the tracking branch in ranger. /areatrack is a real nifty tool for finding baby animals (plus I crack up everytime I see the /areatrack animation).
