Thread: Bothans got a raw deal
Did they change the camo recently then?
I haven't paid attention to the bonus' in the exploration tree for a very very long time. I've been master scout since week 2 of SWG.
I don't like that change at all...
No wonder I've been aggroed alot more recently, I used to just be able to run past Aggros at a reasonable distance without aggro (50m)... push to have it back the way it was...
Dev,
There are other issues with maskscent that are being addressed, so that's probably more of what you are dealing with, not the +15 having gone away.

I am really tired of the Bothans that are complaining about this issue. I am a Wookie that most likely never go Creature Handler (unless I lose a beat or something). In my opinion, you should play a race and class that you want to play and not try to min/max everything. But I know gamers and a lot of people simply look at the numbers and not thecharacter itself.
Before you flame (which I know it is coming), did you want to play a Bothan simply for the stats or for the join of playing a Bothan. If you play for the stats, they I guess you need to learn the rule about online gaming. That rule is nothing is same from day to day. That is all I have to say about the issue about the Bothan issue.

Dev,
I don't think that Camo had anything to do with NPCs, but I'm going to ask for a clarification from the Devs and I'll get back to you when I get a response.

no man. This was without using mask scent....
Generally mask doesn't work vs Humanoids... but the camo feature did.
For quite sometime I could run past Binayres or Followers of lord Nyax at a safe 50m distance without Mask scent.. people near me (non scout) if any would get attacked but not me even if I was closer to the aggro.
These days I've been noticing that I cannot get past the same mobs without them grabbing aggro on me, even from 60-70m away...
Taking Camo away from scouts was not good. Giving rangers better camo abilities would have been better.
I'll have to check out my skills tonight..
yeah, checked my skill line up last night and all my Camo bonus's I once had are gone
Guess I have to go back to being more careful and taking the long road again.
From what I gathered about Camo and Maskscent:
A cammo bonus made it harder for Aggro mobs to see you, regardless of humanoid or animal. You'd have more time to respond to those "oops" situations where you ran too close to an aggro NPC. Basically it seems to had the effect of shortening their aggro range on you. So a Binayre who can aggro up to 64m away would only aggro you at 50m with a small chance of 50 to 64m.
Maskscent would essentially make you invisible to animals. You could run up to a Rancor and pet him on the nose and get out. But Mask never works against Aggro Humanoids. This is the way I have been used to playing for such a long time now and they suddenly rip it from our grasp.
Instead of completely taking the camo bonus from scouts, they should have kept it that way and given Rangers an even Better camo bonus.
sure people whould be able to pick whatever race they want, but that takes away some Role playability. Calimari get a +10 weapon assembly bonus and a 10% armor, structure exp bonus. why? because in the EU they were the best crafters. Their cruisers were built without any blue prints, they just built them and they worked.
Bothans fit well into a Camo bonus as they are furry and can blend in better. Wookies are strong and covered in a thick fur which would require specialy made armor, and even then be extremely uncomfortable to wear. It just makes sense the way they set up the species. Any one can play any species they want and any profession, it's just that some get a special profession bonus for things that fit their sepecies.
Dev,
I want to preface this by saying that I don't have a dev clarification on this, but I'm going to try and get one soon. What I am about to say is from my experience.
I think you're mistaken about camo. I honestly think that its only benefit in the game was to serve as the baseline modifier for Maskscent when the game was implemented. I don't think it had any affect on creatures outside of the use of maskscent, and none at all on NPCs. I may be wrong, and if so, you'll get my apologies.
We all know that maskscent wasn't working the right way after the "big" update until the latest patch (the one that gave Rangers conceal). It was working too well - it was never designed to make us totally invisible. That was a bug, and unfortunately it was a bug that people grew into and that's made it hard to get used to again. It's like a bug that gave you an extra $100 in your paycheck - at first you were excited, then you got used to it, and soon you counted on it. When it got fixed, you really miss that extra $100. So it is with maskscent. But in reality- we shouldn't have gotten used to the change in the first place, because it was never meant to be that way.
I like that racial bonuses for exactly the reason you state. Some species are inherently better at certain things than others are. I feel like Mon Calamari should be better swimmers than me. And Wookies should be stronger, and Bothans stealthier. But I also like that the Empire, in its racist wisdom, smacks aliens around for being aliens, too. It makes the game more Star Warsy and more immersive.
Once I confirm whether you are right or am I, I'll let you know.

Thanks for the input.
to be honest I very rarely have used Mask scent, unless it was for the "oops too close" blunders that we so lovingly get ourselves into from time to time.
Usually the camo bonus was good enough for me as I venture lightly and warily. That is providing camo worked the way I believed. But I've been a master scout for quite sometime now so some thing became a part of me and my character... Untill I realized that the person following me was 100m behind after a few small hills.
I do hope you get the information soon, as I would like to know about this skill. It doesn't matter to me if I'm wrong, it's that now I know the correct information.
thanks for the help in clarifying to us some of these "steal" nerfs...
