Most informative thing I've read on the forums.

They need to put this up in the advanced guides section on the web... much more useful than the stuff they have up there at the moment.

Thanks Delta

Corn,

First - if you are grouped, you should get a 40% reduction in the amount of harvestable materials that you can get. That's the way the new system is setup.

Second - it depends on who you talk to as to which is quicker, trapping or scout XP. I found that trapping was easiest for me, but others (more, actually) feel that Scouting was easier/faster. To get the critters that give the most Scout XP, you need to be grouped. Fambaas give about 440 XP per harvest, Rogue Fambaas about 500. Tortons give about 400, Raging Torntons 550. Kimogilas and Krayts give 2000 XP. So if you can take one of those down, you're golden. But you'll need a pretty hefty group (at least 5-6 with pets and at least one rezzable doc.)

In your macros section, you might want to mention adding "/loot;" to your harvest macros. Most people don't think to loot creatures, but many of them now drop components.

You also need a blurb to pay attention to other attributes of your harvested materials, not only overall quality. It's still the most important in my opinion, just not the only one you want to pay attention to. A hide with all stats 500+ is often better than one with OQ 900 and the rest 1s (not always). For those that really want to learn about their customer's needs, point them to a crafting guide that discusses material properties.

Seir,

I added it to the Ranger guide (the /loot thing.)

When I do version 4.0 after the next publish, I'll add the stuff that FUna and you have been talking about.

Heh, I thought this *was* your new version. I didn't look at the date of anything except the last post before mine.

Necroposting strikes me again.

I didn't ralize i could get more survival xp by grinding traps. Scouting and Trapping xp comes easy with my playstyle. I would definitly max exploration before hunting and then head to Yavin. Every monster is hostile, large, and in packs. With the Exploration IV strength max scent i almost maxed Hunting from II to IV just from running from one side of Yavin to the other.

Terrific guide, Delta. I've been playing strictly as an armorsmith since day one, but I got tired of the grind. After I realized that I spend ALL my time on Naboo in my workshop, I decided to drop that profession and take up the path of Ranger.

Fortunately, I had built up my rifleman, pistol and exploration skills well in advance, when I was mastering artisan and needed to go out and secure my own resources. Today, I have come into the scouting field already well ahead of the curve and am enjoying every moment of it. I am closing in on master scout (4-2-3-3) and look forward to getting offworld to see the sights.

One suggestion I would like to pass along is the idea of "chaining" recon missions. This means running continuous recon missions with minimal downtime. Geography plays a large part in this, but I will explain how I do it. Currently my home and PA is located outside of Kaadara, Naboo. The city of Keren is located about 3 or 4km to the southwest. I take two recon missions in the direction of Keren (each 1100 to 1500cr.) and head out, hunting critters along the way. When I complete my missions, I continue on to Keren's starport (where there are mission terminals) since I am already close by. There I grab two recon missions back in the direction of Kaadara and head back, again hunting and campingalong the way. Back in Kaadara, I get two missions toward Keren again. Wash, rinse, repeat. In three hours, it's easy to rack up about 10k with minimal work and still get a lot of hunting in. I tend to make a little more money from looting thugs along the way since my faction with them is at rock bottom. There is nothing limiting you from chaining a string of more than two cities.

There are a couple of things I do have to mention about chaining recon missions: One, there is a really annoying bug out there where recon missions simply will vanish and you get a "Mission Incomplete" message. At first I thought this may have been an issue where some missions have a time limit, but that is not mentioned anywhere in the mission description, so I cannot explain it. Do be aware that there is the potential for one or both of your recon missions to go POOF on you halfway between cities and your time wasted. The second thing I want to suggest is that you need to balance the reward you get with time spent. If you get bored running back and forth between cities, this might not be for you. I suggest that no one do this until you get Exploration 4 so you aren't slowed by cliffs and mountains. Also, try to do these runs between cities that are about as distant as your missions. Kaadara-to-Keren is ideal because of the distance between the two cities is managable and missions tend to be on the way. I also like this route because there are no lakes or rivers in between me to slow me down, just the plateau cliff between them.

DeltaXi165 -- Thank you for this very helpful guide! One thing you left out, however, and which I would really appreciate -- a fuller discussion of two-handed weapons for those of us who want to follow your lead.

Since we scouts are primarily interested in hunting animals, not people, should we stick to *kinetic* two-handed weapons for melee? Or is it worthwhile to invest in, say, a vibroaxe once we reach Two-Handed Weapons III? You do mention vibroaxes and power hammers, in passing. But I would really welcome a more complete discussion.

My wookie scout has just reached Two-Handed III and was looking in the bazaar for vibroaxes. None available in the entire Flurry galaxy! Vibro Lances, yes. Vibroblades, yes. Vibro Knuckles, yes. But no vibroaxes. So I began thinking that they weren't very popular or useful.

In any case, my current Two-Handed Curved Sword is a beaut, and brought me up from Two-Handed II to Two-Handed III in about a half-hour, felling butterflies, durni, and gubbers right and left -- all in a 30m area (near Doaba Guerfel on Corellia). So I thought, Why should I invest in a vibroaxe?

Can you give us some advice on this matter? Thanks!

Wow dude i didn't read the whole thing but that is amazing.

Actually WoMb, I thought Delta's guide is rather concise, when you consider scouting is more complex then some professions.IMHO, it'stheforum that makes it seem long, if viewed from some of the websites it's not as intimidating. There are some minor things that most have mentioned (like BEs wanting eggs more than Chefs), but all in allit'sgood resource. I guess I'll add my only real concern, Delta takes the time to list three of the starting planets so why doesn't he all five?Of course since he mentions my favoriteplanet (Talus) as a great place for scouts (it is after all), I can forgive him.

One thing that I found helpful, being a former master CH and changing professions (going BH)... something that helped trapping immensely was having a pet. I wandered Naboo, about 1500m outside of Kaadara and found gualama lairs (piles of rocks)... I sent my pet (a graul mauler), and sat back and lobbed wire mesh traps. I tried the bone spurs, but they can't affect mobs more than once. Also, I used wire mesh because they take the least ammount of resources to make, as well as being able to affect a mob as many times asyoucan. I did 5 per mob, just because it was convienient.

At trapping II I could hit gualamas with some regularity, usually 3 out of 5 times. At trapping III I could hit gualamas almost 5 out of 5 times, and tusk cats 4 out of 5 times.

Gualamas range from 90 to 125 exp per trap, and the tusk cats were 150 exp per trap. If you add up a minimum of 3 traps hitting per mob, it adds up very quickly. My graul could kill the things I was fighting easily... usually right around the length of time it would take me to throw 5 traps. If he didnt kill them on his own, they have very little HAM left so its pretty easy to finish them off with any level IV combat skill.

Using this method I flew through trapping. I started trapping I yesterday at around 2 PM, and I finished trapping IV at about 6 PM... and that was taking a break for dinner and stuff. Yeah, its pretty "powerlevel"-ish, but it is not a long grind by any means.
