Thread: BIG nerf in Publish 8!
Guys,
I asked TH to fix the typo that omitted "with Novice Scout abilities" after "Any player". It's there now.
This is just a means of convenience. You don't have to waste a macro, etc. And you can put it into a droid with the trap module so you can throw traps and then harvest (i believe).
It's a fun add-on that makes life a little more convenient. It's not supposed to solve any of our problems or make us more uber. Just something that makes having a droid for us better than simple as a pet, extra storage, or RP value.

"Current look at target"...if your already targeting the corpse, what's the difference in pressing a custom macro of /loot;/harvest meat and whatever command you have to issue to make the driod harvest "for you".It's more hassle I think, yet if it automatically harvested for you all thecorpses in a 15m radiuswether it be by a single command like /droidradialharvest meat then make it loop ourselves, it would be much more useful. Does it add to your creature harvesting mod? I would like to see a 50% increase to your current skill (as opposed to +50 Creature Harvesting, which would make a noob "overpowered").If there's no +Creture Harvesting mod,can we stack resources? Like I harvest meat from the corpse, my droid harvests more meat, or even bone or hide?I hate these holes they leave in their explainations that leave room for speculation and assumptions...
I like the idea because then I can kite from 63 meters and let the droid take the risk of running in and harvesting.. safer for ranged people.
Though, I DO have a question, will it get nailed by the /harvest meat; command trying to harvest players whose name starts with "meat" ?

Gang,
My understanding of how this droid is going to work is simply that it's going to make harvesting more convenient, rather than allowing you to harvest more or above your skill level.
I will be on Test Center testing this out as soon as I can and I'll report back my findings.

Sorry Delta, but I would fought this from the get go had I known about it. I don't care if you need novice scout. thats crap. Almost everyone that is a crafter has it anyway. The problem is this. Novice scout 15 points can harvest, for example, 10 units when solo ungrouped. Add one droid and his harvest drops to 6. But the droid now can also harvest 6. And this is assuming that the droid will be limited to the same level of harvest skill as the droid controller. As it should be. Can't program something you know nothing about, now can you?
Now I forget how DE works, but if its like CH where the higher you go the more pets/droids you can pull out, this sucks for us. Master DE can pull say.....4 droids, and he has novice scout. Now this person with only novice scout can harvest (6x5=30) units per kill. How is this fair compaired to a novice scout or even say scout with 4 in hunting that is solo and no DE skills? Its not.
Because scout and ranger are so, unique, and ATM a bit limited in range of true funcionality in the community, harvesting is about the only they are good at,and used for. No other real reason those professions are use. And I'm a master ranger saying this. I lead large groups of hunters out, various levels of scout/ranger on hunts. We take advantage of the group harvest thing, and have everyone harest the same thing off everything on the hunt. We pull a lot of resources this way. This is about the only way scouts and rangers can make money, and monkeys(had to) ATM. So now some DE with novice scout has the potential to come along and do what a group of novice scouts would have to do? And yes I realize that now I, and the rest of my hunt group, should be able to pull out a droid with one of these. But we would all be limited to 1 droid each. I don't know of any DE in my groups. and very few CH anymore.
OK now let me about the RP aspect of this. Kind of lame really. To harvest you are dealing with animal anatomy. All different types of anatomy from different critters on different planets and environments. This is where the skills and training of the scout comes in. Each animal is a little different. About 97% of droids are programmable to function repeatable tasks that are "EXACTLY" the same every time. Harvesting does not fall into that category. Now yes their medical droids, which are programmed to deal with different anatomies etc. But they are a much higher level droid, with higher level programing and functions, and tools. Not cheap either. Was any of this taken into consideration?
Squid,
From what I understand, you are completely incorrect about the implementation of this droid. You do not get to double dip. The droid harvests, and you can't anymore.
I will let you know once I get one of these and can finish testing it.
And for the record - I am never going to argue against adding something cool and unique to the game. This could be a positive change, and being negative about it ---- especially when its been out less than a day ---- doesn't help anyone.
Be optimistic Squid- this could be a good thing. It doesn't have to be bad.

Brisc,
Seriously, I think TH is .... well it will be censored. How did we get milking? Why were the camps nerfed? How did CMs get TN? They just freaking do what they want and to hell with us. We are way too low density, and after the last camp nerf, we got scarce.
Seems the only "love" we get is without KY, and we ain't asking for it, they are just giving.

JB,
You can make that argument with Rangers, but Scouting is the #2 novice profession in the game. And while yeah, there have been some setbacks, I see some good stuff coming. We just need to keep our chins up and not let the wait get us down.

I got to second what Delta has to say. I can make more "monkey" with my creature harvesting skills I get at Master Scout than I can with my Bounty Hunting skills I get at Master Bounty Hunter. Harvesting resources is actually more fun than bounty hunting. There's more intereaction with the community, and there's more research involved with finding the best hide/meat/bone on my server. Scout is in good shape and Delta has done a remarkable job for you guys over the last 9 months.
Im a MDE and to allay some fears, we can not pull out more than one droid at a time. So a MDE with a fleet of harvester droids will not be able to outharvest a group of scouts. He'll be able to pull ONE droid.
We (DE's) are more interested in selling useful droids then trying to outperform or equal the skills of other professions. IMHO.
I would like to know how the modules are working on test for all our potential "customers". So Im following these. If anyone is on test get a DE to build you a cheap droid with a harvest module and test it out!

Check out Calc's posts on it in Ranger forum. He has been playing with it on TC some.
