It gets much, muchworse if your going for master ranger.
You'll learn to love to camp when you see the Ranger Frontiering tree. 200K camping XP. OUCH!

I've read that you gain Wilderness Survival experience from crafting tents/traps while camping as well as by foraging, but I've never seen those points in my chat window or in the system messages that appear onscreen. Fishing, yes; breaking down camps, yes; crafting and foraging, no.
Checking my stats window is not always reliable since it does not always accurately reflect my total experience points earned (sometimes I have to log out and then log back in for the experience points earned to calculate and, no, just opening and closing that window does not always work).
Can someone tell me where I can see just how many experience points I'm earning from crafting and foraging while camping? Also, do you get experience from just crafting camps/traps or will any crafting give you the Wilderness Survival experience?

You don't get any XP from foraging. We're trying to get that, but we've been trying since last July. ![]()
The crafting XP goes onto your bar, but you won't get a system message for it - it's the same as any other crafting XP. Take a look at your survival bar - note the number. Then craft a bit, and check it again. It'll have gone up.
You only get XP from crafting camps and traps.
Read the Survival XP section of my guide for more details.

I belive basic camps cap at 10 minutes, and almost every other scout camps cap around 15 minutes, so you are right about the wasted time. And there is no place it says you get xp, but you can open the skills screen, and select the xp monitor. That way you can see how much xp untill the next skill you need without opening the skill screen.

And I belive you get more xp on practice mode. So if you aren't going to need those traps or camps, select practice mode and you should get more xp, but you won't get a finished product.
