Thread: Apprentic Point requirements are a nightmare

Puck,

The issue is simply this - anything that requires time and hard work to achieve is going to have people working their butts off to find a way around it. That's human nature. The Devs can only require so much before it goes from promoting what they want to promote (interaction between players) and annoyance - we saw this with the camp removal thingie.

They can't remove everything that's annoying in the game, because those annoying things are what make it a challenge, and what make mastering a profession something to be proud of. The hologrinders have reduced that to nothing. I used to be proud to say that I mastered Scout in 11 days when the game came out. Now people do it in four hours.

I'm rambling now, but my point is that people are like water - they will generally always take the path of least resistance. So the Devs need to make sure that there are bumps to make that path harder to get through. And AXP is one of those bumps. But people are smart and they can solve problems fast if they are motivated, and that's why you're seeing what you want to see.

The next step is not to remove or lower the AXP value. Instead, it should be something along the lines of setting a timer on removal and retraining of skill boxes. If you remove a skill box, you should have to wait a day until you can retrain that skill. That's a better way of reforming the system.

Will this ever happen? Probably not. It would kill hologrinding and be very unpopular. But I'd be for it. It may hurt some folks, but it would benefit everyone down the road.

Yeah that's how it was for my first go-around and especially for my Droid Engineer. With this Scout I have 20 AP right now and not far from coming up on Master, but that's because I've been spending jsut about all my time in the field, getting trained by Scouts that I pass by.

P.S. if there are any Master Scouts/Rangers on Corellia(Tempest) who are interested in training, I like to find one trainer and give him all my AP's. Just a thought to keep in mind if you need, say, 150+ AP.

I always wonder why people spam about training, I capped my AP ages ago and train people all the time (Medic/Doc skills) Shame I can't /delegate AP, I could make a small fortune

AP is easy to get

all you need is two people working together. For example is neither of you have carbine skill then all you need to do is to kill a couple of creatures each and you will get enough for carbine 1. One of you trains by an NPC and the other gets more xp. The Person with Carbine 1 then trains the other and drops carbine 1. The other then trains the first and gets it again.

Repeat until huge amounts of AP is gathered by all. You can do anything novice like this, surveying, dancing, healing brawling.

Apprentice points aren't hard to get. In a crowded area just say you're teaching, don't spam though. My character already has 100 AXP without ever advertising. Try wearing a title that people want the skills for. The people that search for peope to train them will find you.

"I see the point behind the AP system. To make Master, it makes sense to learn how to train others/teach others your profession before you can be considered Master."

That's one reason why the XP requirement is there, but the biggest reason, and what I thought was obvious, is so that people will teach other players skills. Most people are happy to teach you if you ask politely, but if there was no benefit to teaching, much fewer people would do so, and noobs would be forced to spend 1000 credits learning from a trainer. The system is desinged so that skills get "recycled" in a way.

And finally, just think about it. To reach the highest level in four different skill trees takes a LOT of XP. Mastering a proffession requires a mere 620 XP. Which can be gained in entirety without leaving a starport.

And why is this in the scout forum?

Jawa,

We're one of the friendlier forums, so we get a bunch of random questions. I answer 'em anyway, because I'ma nice guy.

And also, the guy that started the thread was trying to get AXP for Master Scout.

Take Novice Entertainer and Image Design 1.

Find a parter.

Or hire some other entertainer to click for you.

Even if you have 400/400/400 mind stats...with some Muon and other food... you can get 1240 app points in an hour.

And if you don't have spare skillpoints...

Plan ahead next time.

I think that AP xp is harder to come by now, because theredoesn't seem to be as many newbies running around needing training. The nice thing about the hologrinders is that they need training.

Guys,

The system is not so bad - IF you aren't hologrinding.

Delta, I need to disagree just a tad with this.

I'm hologrinding, but I'm not speed hologrinding...that is, I'm following the path established by the holocrons, but I'm not in a tremendous hurry. I want to have some fun with these professions the cube thinks I should learn. I know this isn't the way hologrinding has become, but I'm not doing this just for the slot. I spent three months not accumulating any XP at all because I had my character template worked out to my satisfaction: master scout, master medic, master creature handler, apprentice gunfighter. Then the holocraze hit and the possiblity of having a flashlight seduced me, and I started to look for holocrons. One day in December, they showed up in my inventory without spending hours on Dantooine killing NPCs! So I used one and started learning the ways of the combat medic. My way, playing the game the way I like to play it, not in a rush to grind through it. To get experience, not just XP.

You're right, though, in the larger sense: getting AP isn't difficult if you're not in a huge zipping through on a swoop hurry. Right now, I'm rebuilding my AP back up to 1280 after mastering combat medic, and I'm doing so a few trains at a time. This is easy; put up one of your advanced titles (hunter, explorer) and allow students to come to you. I can't tell you how many times I had "master scout" or "master creature handler" or now "master combat medic" up and someone, out of the blue, using the search function, found me and asked me for training. Usually quite respectfully and willing to come to me to get it, whereever I happened to be at the time.
