Jeez, the poor devs can't win.

This thread seems to be more of a rant than a true concern.

Personally I'm rather happy to see the no build zone go down...because they really wern't working real well unless I was missing some hidden outposts I could be 3k away from talus, try to build a camp to clean up some wounds, and get slapped down and told to sit on the ground and shut up.....it really was a pain in the butt!

I think the SWG boards maybe the single biggest collection of complainers on the planet! It amazes me how people want to bring everyone down.

Borak,

Ditto. That's why I try to keep things optimistic around here.

You've got an eclectic mix of people on these boards - lots of different backgrounds, intelligence, geographical and regional differences, and maturity level. This doesn't even take into account age.

Thus, you're going to have patient people, like most of us Scouts, who recognize that we've got things pretty good, comparatively, and who are willing to wait a while. I like to think that the Camping requirement helps to teach us patience (we'd all make good Jedi, unlike that punk kid Skywalker). But this isn't always the case, especially with the kids, who just haven't learned that a reasoned, well thought out post is going to get them farther than huge fonts and wacky colors.

Oh well. Let's just keep on keepin' on, Scouts!

I didn't read every post here in detail, but I think everyone missed something...

I seem to remember someone (Q maybe, or another Dev) stating that the camping would be allowed in the No-Build zones and wilderness - not the City zones.

There are 3 'rings' = the city zone, the 'no build sone' and the wilderness. As long as there is NO building in the city zone... things should be fine.

Yeah, that makes sense Tarakin. I think you're right on that. I think that's the right solution.

How about adding to the WS XP equation "distance from city zone"? XP accumulates faster as you camp further away from civilization?? Maybe up the camp cap every 1000m. An extra 10% cap every 1K.

Just ideas...

I like your ideas Clanson.... yours is the solution I would like to see applied to WS XP. It rewards Scouts who do what Scouts are supposed to do.... explore AWAY from the cities.

I woulnd't worry so much about it ruining Rangers, as it doesn't seem to be the most popular profession.

Time to campaign again.

When Player Cities come into place we're going have a hell of a time finding ANY place to camp! Unless of course you don't mind camping inbetween harvesters.

Join my crusade! Stop the sprawl while there's still time!!

my simple thoughs on "tent cities".

One of the things I lke about this environment is the possibilities of a realistic portrayal of things as they could be. In some places I have been (granted, third world countries, but still) there are "shanty towns" and "tent cities" surrounding major cities. It is usually for people that are poor and the environment isn't pleasant. I kind of like the sprawl that gathers around the cities. It gives it a more interesting appeal.

I personally never spend much time around cities, having lived in the mountains north of Kor Valle in Corellia for a while. I find that when I do go into cities, for the various reasons, that I hate them. I am just a small town wookie. I like them even less with all the camps around. And I love that aspect of the game. So for pure atmosphere, there is a real plus side in my opinion.

As far as the "grind" ... well, I never spend any time around cities anyway so I am pretty much on my own. And now that I have moved to Endor, well .... loneliness is just a part of life .. especially when that rain starts and the sad music kicks in. Very depressing. So I am stuck doing that anyway.
