Well, I'm hardly a master scout (got all the first level skills, about half the second), but for survival exp, I just set up a camp and wait until I'm healed. Then, I don't sit around, I just leave it up and go off and hunt more stuff. Most of the time I'll get 200+ exp for the single person camps, but sometimes only 20. Might get a little less per camp, but I make more camps, and get more experience for other things.

Heck, the hides & bones are not only free, you get other exp for harvesting them. Once they put in the camping OK in no-building zones, I'll make a *lot* more camps since most of the destroy missions I'm doing are just barely outside the no-build zones and at least 3/4s of the time I try to make one I can't.

Grock,

It's scheduled for the next update, which is currently testing on Test Center. It should be live on the regular servers sometime next week, barring any major issues.

By the way, camps will make a pass at all your wounds every 5 minutes (on the dot). It will heal 10 points of wound damage. I've found that if you break the camp down before at least the first wound tick, you won't get much experience. To find out how much time the camp has been up, check the Camp Status option on the Camp terminal menu. Or just watch your wounds.

Don't attack anything while in camp either. It will immediately destroy the camp and you won't get a lick of XP.

Oh, and Durability doesn't seem to grant you anything special. It is based on the Decay Resistance of the Hide and Bones you use (I've gotten a durability of 26% before). I may be wrong about this. If I am, someone please correct me, because I'd love to know.

my favorite trapping combo is Sharp Bone Spurs + Noise Maker.. these two should drop the mind on most lower creatures down toward nil, making them an easy Headshot or even regular attack. Thephenalycine dart is also good for creatures that go hostile easily.. slows them down, allowing you more time to throw more traps or shoot them repeatedly.

I have found that my trapping experience goes much higher if I put in sequence on the tool bar every trap I am able to make. I come up on a white or yellow and click on each trap and then shoot away. The creature goes down quickly and I get a huge amount of experience.

Deg,

I would suggest either going Bothan, for the maskscent/conceal modifier, or sticking with a human - especially if you plan on joining the Imps, so don't get smacked with the racial penalty in faction points.

Starting planet - I'm partial to Naboo, like I said in the guide. The areas around Moenia and Theed are especially good areas for a starting Scout. But the other starting planets are just as good.

Thanks for the guide, Delta. If it's possible, it would be nice to see something about species and starting location recommendations. I know that species is dependant on where you eventually want to go once you get to master scout.

The strat guide give the species bonuses, but doesn't really offer much in the way of advice. The one thing they say is that, if you are going for creature handler, the wookie would be the best choice. Any chance of you being able to put together some recommendations based on a character's movement into the specific elite and hybrid skills?

Also, I just started my Scout character on Starside. I've had an artisan/scout/medic/marksman on Kauri for some time. Kauri's population is either dropping or totally static, which makes finding groups, etc. difficult. Partly to blame for this is the developer's stating that Kauri is "the unofficial French server". The English-speaking players seem to be staying away from Kauri as a result.

When I started today on Starside, I liked the look of Rori and decided to set up there, at Namble (sp?). Turns out Rori is pretty well a low-population planet. I ran around for hours before I finally lucked onto a player who could give me some training. And forget finding anything in the bazaar. Not much to offer on the whole planet. So, my contribution to recommendations for starting planets/cities in the Scout profession would definitely rule out Rori.

As far as species go, I decided to start a Trandoshan. The only reason was that I thought it would be a novelty to play this reptile race. Now, I'm beginning to think that the best all-around race for Scout would have to be either human or wookie. What are your thoughts? I'm going back into the game and delete my 'Dosh newbie. I think I'll create a human, for their versatility.

Anyway, just rambling here

Wow! Great guide! I've been looking for help all week. (I just bought the game a few days ago) and haven't a clue where to start. The Holocron and the Manual only take you so far. I decided to start off as a Scout since it seemed an overall good idea. I am the dreaded newbie and rather weak, so these tips are great. Only problem is that when I go out looking to hunt, all I ever see are yellow creatures. As a beginner that is like suicide. Though, I am sure I gave a few people a great laugh as they watched me running, shooting and screaming Han Solo style as I fled

Any idea where I can find some lower level creatures? I am in Dearic on the Gorath server.

Essie,

Try around the outskirts of Daeric. Generally, you'll find a lot of lower level creatures hanging around the edges of the city. They're a great way to level up quickly.

Also, try taking some missions from the mission terminals. Unequip your main weapon so you get low level missions. When you equip your weapon, it'll be much easier to take them down.

Welcome to Scouting! Good hunting!

Ah, now that makes sense. I will unequip my weapon and try that! And if I am successful, I'll come back and praise you
