Thread: READ THIS: Maskscent NERFed SYS MASKSCENT DELAY
I agree, VeganDago. Scouting xp is excruciatingly slow to earn. And it's not very fun killing the same monsters over and over again just to harvest their corpses. Factoring in time spent on finding the right critters, I get about75 Scout xp per minute killing blue /cons. At that rate, it will take at least 15 hours to get the Scout xp I need forNovice CH (starting from Exploration II, Hunting I, and and 2k scout xp), let alone the time I'll need to get from Survival II to Survival IV and 620 Apprentice xp. And that's assuming I can maintain the same xp/min output, which I doubt.
It's just another step toward SWG becoming EQ in space.
way to go they are turning into another Mythic. This totally pisses me off. Now we cant scout? Can we just rename the entire profession to::
"Trapper and Cool looking but other than that completely useless Camp maker?"
Seirously, there was no out of control XP gain, and even if there was whats the problem? It wasn't hurting anyone, and it allowed us to SCOUT dangerous planets we may otheriwse only get to see once or twice.
I would really like to see a dev post about this because this completely kills the most usefull skill in our line (I dont agree that trapping is all that usefull).
WHY? Because some non-scout griped about seeing someone with a Master title before he got his? Thats bs, PLEASE dont turn into another mythic and nerf everything. Oh wait, you just did.
I think we all need to voice our opinions on this. I'm not even a scout and I think this nerf is poorly planned.
Devs - You should have put more thought into the solution before you applied it.
Devs - Hows this for an idea... consult the PLAYERS... it's been like what... a few hours and we have come up with the idea of nerfing the xp instead...see how that works... consult the people with the most information... the PLAYERS!
I am voicing my opinion as a Scout/Ranger/Creature Handler
This nerf is FINE!!! It is not a nerf at all; rather, it is a fix for an exploit that people who don't like to work to build their character are complaining about.
This fix helps to create a bigger gap between Novice/master scouts and rangers. And it also stops all of these people who would just as much like a "earn master ranger for free" button on the UI.
I just gained maskscent so I don't know how it was working, but it doesn't seem to give any xp at all at this point. Is that normal? I have seen posts that maskscent does not work very well at advanced level, but is it supposed to work at least once in a awhile?
I hit maskscent and I frequently get the message that I was detected and no xp which makes sense. When it just wears off and I have been in the vicinity of creatures, am I supposed to get some xp? I have yet to get any.
If the change is that there is both a delay and no gain in xp at all, that does seem extreme. As I said, I don't have experience from before the change, so I am trying to understand where the skill and benefit stands now.
I still think the central issue remains;
Was this an exploit or wasexploring a valid form of play for an explorer-class profession? And if so why did the Dev team not ask the community for a solution to the 'xp problem' rather than nerf the skill prior to the surprise patch?
Certainly there were a lot of players making great xp off this, but it's not like they were AFK-macroing. Instead they were taking a risk and exploring the galaxy. Isn't this the point of playing the Scout?
So if nerfing /maskscent now makes it more focused on one-time use, then what is the future of the scout as an explorer... and why even call one skill tree of the scout profession Exploration?
Sorry Devs, I try to keep an open mind on things and I appreciate the difficulty of class balancing, but this stinks of shutting down rapid xp gain without considering it's impact on the purpose of the affected skill.

Agreed, why not just reduce the amount of xp gained by /maskscent? Perhaps you shouldn't be able to spam it to become virtually undetectable (I haven't even successfully pulled of a /maskscent yet, so I'm not saying this was possible before), but every 60 seconds makes this a novelty skill, not a strategy.
But don't despair, they have nerfed things and then backed away several times already, we just need to keep the discussion going.
I posted a HUGE post but it got nerfed too...
So instead of typing for another 20 minutes let me just say, nerfs from SOE come without warning without thought and without research. They always have. I've played EverQuest for 4 years and it takes them YEARS to correct things they broke nerfed in the past.
So, unless you are in this game for the long haul, you probably won't be happy much as they will Nerf and Nerf and Nerf until you hate your class then they will try to resurrect the class by giving you new skills that are worthless.
SOE has never listened to its player base.
I tried out the new Mask Scent today, and although getting 12000 exp in one hour last night might have been a bit over the top, getting 800 from it in 90 minutes tonight sucks the big one. I can kill blues near a city and harvest and get between 3000 and 4000 experience per hour.
