Delta I'm still little confused about this. ![]()
Could you explain in what circumstances would these different range aggro penalties take place.
Let's take this following situation: I'm in middle of 5 creatures ... closest to me is in 10 m and others are in 20 m, 26 m, 42m and 50m. I'm moving closer to the creature that was 42 m range and it comes to 40 m range. Check is made and my mask scent is broken. What happens next is that aggro check is made to all 5 creatures. Creatures at 10m, 20m and 26 m aggroes to me and the creature at 40 m and 50 m don't, even though the creature at 40 m was the one to break the mask scent.
Is this what you are getting at Delta ... or am I way off the base? Because this is the only way I can think of that these different ranges could come into play. By the way ... what would be the max range ... 64 m?
Il,
The aggro penality only affects the creature that broke your mask scent, not all of them.
So if you were at 42m and the guy breaks your mask scent, he's not going to attack you. But (depending on the ferocity of the other creatures) you COULD get attacked by the other guys, but that's just because you are near them and not sent masked - notbecause of the penalty.
This change doesn't really affect those of us who use mask scent for hunting. It mainly affects those of us who use it for DNA Sampling and (yes, I'm for helping CHs once in a while) Taming.

1) Take you and a friend without maskscent (or who does not use it for testing purposes).
2) Use maskscent and approach a lair of aggressive creatures. Walking is best as it will give you the best server synch and give you enough time see how dramatic the results are.
3) Due to the fail rate of maskscent (which will be fixed), your maskscent will more than likely drop.
4) Note that the creatures aggro on you almost instantly after maskscent drops while your friend has to stand there for a while, often at very close range.
After taking into account the fact that you are protected until your maskscent actually drops, you will find that you draw aggressive creatures significantly more than your unscented friend. You can time it if you wish. Your friend will last tens of seconds before drawing agrro. You will get it instantly in most cases.
That is the maskscent aggression penalty.
Currently it applies at any range that your maskscent is broken. When the monthly patch is released it only happens out to 40 meters. Our suggestion is to reduce the likelihood of it happening the further away from the creature you are, which would be a further reduction.
Hmm ... could someone explain to me how the mask scent check is made? I thought that mask scent check is done only once per creature and that is when you enter the 40 m range (actually on live servers I've noticed that check is made at 30 m range ...at leastthat is when I'm getting the exp).
That is why I can't understand why you should tier the aggro penalty ... check is made at 40 m range and if it doesn't break it isn't done again on same creature ... so there is no need to 10 m aggro penalty. And as I've understood that this upcoming fix will make it so that mask scent can't be breaked when range is greater that 40 m ... so there is no need for aggro penalty for ranges 41+ m.
Of course I might be wrong and that's why I'd like someone to explain it to me. I'm sorry if I sound like old record that is stuck ... but I just don't get this.
Il,
The check is made when you are within the creatures ferocity radius. But at the time same, its always possible that you are moving quickly enough that you'll get closer than 40m before the check is made.
And hey - if I'm wrong, and you're right, then all Green has to do is explain how that works, and I'll let you all know.
At least we've convinced you its not a nerf. ![]()

Which brings up another point. The radius seems to be either 40 or 64 meters based on tests with maskscent, with no other variation. You might suggest they look into this as my impression is that it was supposed to be a bit more random between species.
