Thread: Creature mounts nerf scouts and exploration
Noah,
True, but as skilled horseman can coax his horse to outrun and outhandle a novice horseman in real life. So there's still wiggle room to justify our increased skill.

I've been both dissapointed with the current situation and hopeful for a solution. I have to say right now I throw my support behind Delta's suggestion. It makes the scout line more productive for our CH friends(?) and more helpful going into Ranger.

Soth,
It's okay to reference BHs. I just want to make sure you know that I can't really do much about that stuff. Tanks is your man on that.
I'm glad that you guys like my suggestion. That'll help when Thunder comes over here to talk about it.
As for the skill points on the Space expansion, etc - the Devs have already stated that they are not exactly sure how they are going to handle that...but that one solution was to make Space expansion skills not utilize the same skill point pool as the regular professions do.
I'll keep working on this issue for us.

Interesting idea, except I'm not sure it would have much effect. I rode around quite a bit this week-end on Turkey,my carrion spat, and he didn't seem to slow at all going up hills, even without my terrain negotiation modifier. Would the TN modifier make our mounts go faster on flat terrain and on hills? Would it affect /gallop?
Players should have to go through the same amount of XP to earn terrain negotiation for their pet or mount. I believe most people at this time earn it for themselves....
This skill YOU earned and trained may make you direct your mount better when travelling but doesn't make your pet a better terrain negotiator.
For those of you who are commenting on how a man cannot outrun a horse, we're talking about terrain negotiation here, not speed. Terrain negotiation has to do with running up craggy hills, or climbing near mountains. A trained explorer, or scout can do this relatively easy, whereas a horse would have to slow down and pick his way slowly up the hillside so as to not break a leg, or throw a shoe.
just my 2 cents.
I'll see your 2 cents and raise you 2 more.
Ok, i lied i'm not stating my whole opinion.
We are faster on mountainous terrain, i've dismounted and have left my mounts in the dust when going on hills. Especially on Dathomir, I almost never pull my mount out on Dath because the area is too rough and i'm too impatient to wait on the mount to find his way up the relatively small hill.
Yry,
Your point is well taken. However, one telltale sign of an experienced horseman is the ability to aid the horse in choosing which terrain to climb down. Under my philsophy of Scouts as master mountsmen, this would still remain an important skill and it would provide us with another bonus to mastering scouting.
If its any consolation - I'm having a hard time selling this to the devs too. ![]()

Does anyone disagree that with vehicles, the question of whether terrain negotiation applies to mounts is moot? Is anyone going to bother even keeping their mounts, except maybe for RP?
By the way, I still see value in having the TN modifier, even with vehicles. The way I've been doing things the last few days, I ride my speederbike to the location of the hunt, park it, and hunt on foot (obviously, since you can't engage combat on a vehicle). TN is still useful for moving around the hunting ground, especially if the area is particularly hilly. I have no intention of giving up my TN skill, as long as one of my main activities in the game is creature hunting.
Madd,
Well, vehicles don't let you fight on 'em. Mounts do. That's a big bonus.
