Jassi, let me tell you a little secret....

Master Ranger + Master Carbines = ME!!!

All you normally hear about carbines is how much they suck. Well, I have some amazing news for you... I love them! I think they are great weapons! Can a rifle hit specials at the 1.0sec speed cap? Nope. So what we only have 3 damage types (heat, acid, energy), for a ranger that is plenty. If you can't hurt it, don't shoot it. I don't solo nightsisters/novatroopers/Krayts/SBD but it dosen't really matter cause there is more than enough things to kill in this game besides that.

Also, as a huge bonus, there really arn't that many Carbineers out there so there is never a huge wait to get that great sliced laser, like there is for the T-21's.

Heck you could even take BH carbines and some carbineer skills and speed cap All the cabines...

But don't take it from me... I have only been playing this template for 6 months and have yet to experience 1 moment of bordom

It seems to me a ranger is outclassed by a bounty hunter at his choosen profession, which is hunting! What ranger really gives you is some added bonus to harvest amount, which honestly doesn't concern me or alot of people it seems, and 2 abilities camo and tracking. Camo I've heard isn't really all that, and tracking is pretty much a non-skill considering all you have to do is scour a mission term for the thing you want to hunt and it gives you a wp to the creature!

Well, yes, if you just plan to hunt only what the mission terminals dole out, pretty much any advanced combat profession (or combination thereof) will be better than ranger, because ranger skills are not geared towards killing critters (well, we do get a to-hit bonus at master), but finding them (and avoiding getting eaten). When you take missions from the terminal, the finding of the critters part is done for you, so all that matters is combat ability. But, if you ever need to hunt critters that you can't get missions for (and when you get more experience in the game, you'll realize exactly how many creatures aren't listed on the mission terms), then ranger tracking can be really helpful -- that's assuming, of course, that the critters that you are looking for are actually spawning...

I know I should post this somewhere else but what would some of you think if novice bh required ranger tracking 4 and trapping 4 and mbh box cost 0 skill points. Then PC/NPC traps could be added to ranger making both profs happy. Only thing is less of an incentive to master ranger as mando armor is in bh and u only get camps/camo+ tn.

And I posted in here as Brisc told me its a good group and im scared of the ranger community from being in the bloodfin forums and bh forums and jedi forums soo long...

Ade,

It's an interesting idea. It makes sense, actually - since most of the BHs end up with tracking anyway...

...and it might help to convince the Devs to let 'em use traps on NPCs, etc.

I'll talk to calc about that one.

I don't like this idea at all. Only BHs who do not understand how their droids work need Ranger Tracking. As far as I'm concerned Ranger tracking is a totally redundent skill for BHs. And as far as NPC traps are concerned I say throw them in the Ranger trapping line and if BHs want them then they'll have to spend the SP to get them in ranger. As a BH I don't think I'd ever use a PC trap. I can't imagine what it would get me that my carbine doesn't do for me now.

As it is now we only have 33 extra skill points to increase our power. With this suggestion we would have 0. Which would mean no Pistoleer, no Carbineer and no Medic. And for what? For two totally redundant skills in trapping and tracking? I can track my marks just fine (even Jedi) with my droids, probably even better than with Ranger tracking. What do traps get us? State effects from 20m away? I can inflict every state in the game (except intimidate) with my ranged weapons from over twice the distance and deal out some good damage at the same time.

I also don't think the devs would go for this idea at all. You'd be breaking convention with the skill tree (mastery requiring 0 skill points) and be breaking convention in that you would be requiring lines of an elite profession in order to become novice in another elite profession.

It was good he posted in here first. He would have been lynched in the BH forum.

You shouldn't fear it that much. You just need to know how to handle those guys. And having really thick skin helps.

It may solve the high/med thing, but, I would rather invest all my 33 points into medic. I forgot that Tracking is the hunting branch of Ranger (don't know why I always forget that), so the creature harvesting bonuses would be nice. But, I'd much rather have the choice of going ranger.

What the devs need to do is make Carbineer and Pistoleer redundant enough with BH so that neither side will have a huge benefit dabbling in the other. A master pistoleer should hit the caps on accuracy and speedon all pistoleer specials. A MBH should do the same with BH Pistol specials. Same with carbineer and BH Carbines. That way BH's wouldn't feel such a strong urge to dabble in carbineer or pistoleer for accuracy, speed and/or defense. They could go medic or ranger or CH or SL as and they would offer just as much as the two offensive professions. This is what I really want. I want some flexibility with my MBH. I really would probably love to be MBH/Novice Medic/Ranger 0030. Instead I feel forced to be MBH/Pistoleer 0030/Carbineer 0002 or MBH/Pistoleer 0340 or MBH/Carbineer 0340.

I don't know about all of them, but I think there would be a decent sized contingent of Rangers that would not like the idea at all.

It would give BH even bigger harvest mods as said, which means more competition. Rangers are already out-harvested by people that take scout and a combat class because most of their skill points are tied up in Scout and Ranger, neither of which provides any benefit in creature hunting. As it is, many would like BH to require a profession other than Scout as a pre-requisite.

(Don't let JB see this idea. He'd be frothing at the mouth and is more scary than any Bounty Hunter. )

The problem with Ranger is that it's like scout: Kind of neat and useful, but it's a lot of skill points used with no combat rewards. But ranger is a whole nother proffession after master scout, making the skill point issue even greater.
