Excuse me if im missing something, but, what is the use of them then?
Most of the foraged food is like that. It seems like each food type has so many points to distribute, and they are randomly placed. I've had food with negative effects AND negative duration. Yes, the onions suck. All of them give 400+ to some stat for less than a minute.
What they need is an effects window. It would be nice to see that I have a boost on me, as well as how much time it has left.
Besides, they're full of vitamins. You don't want to suffer from malnutrition, do you?

That's the duration.60s means 60 seconds - 1 minute worth of the buff.

Before the latest patch (last time I played) when you at a buff that increased one of your HAM stats, it would increase the capacity, but not the current value. The current value would begin ticking up 5 units fairly quickly. The unfortunate side effect of this is that the buff will normally run out before you reach the new capacity. Of course, you can have a doctor heal your Health/Action, but not mind. As for the secondary stat buffs, those help immediately.
I use foraged food as a regen boost, and thats about it. When the stat wears off, it doesn't take away your current value, unless its above your original capacity.
I wish they would give us an "effects" window that showed how long we had left on various effects.
