Thread: Is trapping IV very useful?

Im not interested in going master scout as my template wont allow the credit useage but I will be able to get myself up to trapping IV. Will that alone give me a decent trap hit percentage on lower red con creatures? Or do you basically need to be a master scout to be very effective with traps?

Not really, root is random when it actually works. If it does hold its nice but if it doesnt its just a waste. Frankly it doesnt work often enough.

It's usful if you want to go into teh Ranger tree. I still use the P-Dart and Noise Maker. The P-Dartalways slows down my opponent and the Noise Maker is a great compliment to my Rifle damage. Not to mention it uses less resources.

Ohscary,

It is. The Adhesive Mesh trap is one of the most useful of the entire scouting tree. Getting that alone is worth the extra 2 points.

The additiona +10 to trapping skill is of marginal utility, but the AH trap is worth it.

So I'd have to say go for it.

Ok, I can't believe you guys before Delta were dissing the Adhesive Mesh. I take down red con Sharnaff Bulls thanks to Adhesive Mesh. Adhesive Mesh is excellent and even though I have the two Ranger traps I STILL use adhesive mesh.

I think whether you take Exploration orTrapping is really a question of your gameplay. Myself, I love tossing traps at creatures, and dealing with them face-to-face. Running away is generally just fine with Expl III, with the rare exception. The AM trap has been absolutely awesome for me - I've only rarely seen it fail (and thank God, due to the number I make right now - 2 each, with a high [relatively] resource cost), and when it works I can take down most reds with my DH17 carbine!

What about againts high level content? I am finishing up my template and will soon be going exploring on Endor and looking for Dark Jedi and Krayt Dragons with friends. However, I have some extra skill credits which I am undecided about. I already have Exploration 1 so getting trapping IV is one option. Can anyone here give feedback about how effective traps are against high level content? Stuff like how often they land, and how effective they are would be helpfull.

not sure on this but i dont think a piece of mesh is gonna stop a dark jedi or a krayt dragon, whether its adhesive or not.

btw, i hate the idea of ppl just going out and hunting jedi, those dark jedi npcs should be much much much much rarer than they are.

Xol,

Traps don't work against NPCs, but your other traps should generally work against Krayt Dragons. But to be perfectly honest, if you have the extra skill points laying around, don't bother with trapping.

Dump them into the Exploration tree. Maskscent, the modifiers to your terrain navigation and to you burst run are essential - you'll notice a major difference in your speed over uneven terrain even with Exploration II.

So don't worry about traps - get exploration first.

Not to hijack the thread or anything, but while we're on the topic of the adhesive mesh trap...

Where do you folks find the polymer required to make them? Do you purchase them over the bazaar, and if so, under what category, because I sure as heck can't find the polymer required.

You can find it on the bazaar. However I just survey for it and then sample it while I camp works for me.

Amer,

It's an "Inert Petrochemical". Just make sure that you check the type because lubricating oil is also an inert petrochem.

adhesive mesh is your friend. if you want to solo big game then this and the phecnacine dart are really the only way. i soloed a dragonet on tatooine using 3 adhesive meshes. quite useful.
