Thread: Question reguarding traps and trapping xp.

I currently have a character that is at master level in combat related professions but I wanted to take up some scouting. I regularly fight on Dantooine and have been to Endor a few times for leveling. I just started making and tossing traps but it seems that all the creatures I am fighting resist my weak traps easily. I am guessing this is because I just have novice scout.

A) Is there a list anywhere of the various creatures in the world and the difficulty of landing a trap on them?
B) Is it just based on creature level?
C) Does anyone have a list of recommended trapping xp hunting spots for various skill level?

The actual difficulty of the creature doesn't matter. I can handle just about everything, I am just wonder where I should hunt to power through trapping ASAP. Also, I can get plenty of bone/hide from Endor/Dantooine so that is not an issue either.

Xol,

Read my guides - the scout guides here, and the Ranger guide as well.

Traps hitting depend on the level of the creature, your trapping skill, and the trap you are using.

To get the most trapping XP the fastest, make multiple bunches of all of the traps you can make. Set up a macro (or simply place them on your quickbar in a row to make it quick to throw them), and head to the spots where you find the most difficult creatures.

It helps to be in a group, or to have a faction pet or regular pet to hold the aggro. Just throw your traps over and over (if it is a trap that gives the critter a "state" like "dizzy" wait for the effect to wear off). The higher level creatures generally give between 300-500 trapping XP per trap, so you'll move up relatively quickly.

Hope this helps!

I read through the two guides that are sticky here but I didn't see a list of creatures that you can hit at low levels. My problem was that out of about 30 - 40 traps thrown at Huurton, Bol, Pikets (all Dantooine creatures) none of them landed. I a now outside coronet throwing at grubber and durni for 50xp each. :/ Whatever creature I level off of I can probably tank myself, but my problem is that I don't know what sorts of things I am even capable of hitting. Obviously nothing on Dantooine, perhaps some of the stuff farther outside coronet? How far out should I got at novice scout using the lame traps? For the time I am just throwing as many traps as I can at grubber but I have to be carefull to not accidentally kill them!

Xol,

When you are at a lower level, stick with the lower level creatures. Keep doing what you are doing - I would suggest unequipping your weapon, though.

Throw trap after trap - 50 XP each time will get your pretty far when you can hit each critter multiple times.

Distance-wise, if you are hitting the lower level guys you shouldn't have too much trouble, even if hitting from long distances (50 - 64m)

Okay. I think I'll try back on Dantooine at trapping III. Also, does the level of trap effect my chance to hit? I remember reading a brief mention about this somewhere. That is, should I use my highest level trap to get xp or can I just use the novice scout traps and level just as quickly (same chance to hit)?

Xol,

The level does matter. Wire mesh traps are notorious for not working on higher level critters.

Use one of EACH trap you can make when you are going for XP. This gives you the best to-hit percentage.

Xol,

Here is what i did to power through my last 10K of trapping and it worked really well for me.

I found a mob that con'd white to me and that did not DB. I took a mission and went out to the spot and just threw traps until the beast Incapped me. Also, i used only wire mesh traps ( the lowest one you can make ) It is really cheap to make and you can spam it all you want. I could average 6 to 10 traps per beast and was getting about 80 xp each trap. Make sure you unequip your weapon as your not really looking to kill.

Personally i prefered Bagersets on Correlia as they are slow, dumb and dont DB.

This methodrequires patience while you wait for your HAM bars toreset, but if you have any medic skills you can speed this up alot. Also, get yourself some cheap Mabari Armor with decent kenetic resist and you may get a few more off. I am cheap and figured it wasnt worth the cost.

Hope this helps.

I tried baggerbeasts (I think that's what they were). They gave 169xp / trap, I am just wondering if this is as good as I can do at trapping II? At what point can I start trapping on Dantooine (huurton is the lowest level there)? I guess I am just spoiled being nearly master TKA and having to go fight baggerbeasts is depressing. :/

Okay, turns out you can hit huurton pretty regularly at trapping II and they give 178xp / trap. So I only need to land under 60 traps to get to trapping 3 which isn't so bad. I have another question though:

What is up with traps and the combat que? When I try to just que up a bunch they don't leave the que and it's _really_ annoying. Right now I throw, peace (so I don't kill), then once the que is clean I repeat. I can't unequip my weapon because as a melee I have toughness when I have a certain weapons out (unarmed) and if I unequip that and pick up something like a carbine I get hit a lot harder.

Is there a workaround or a fix for this combat que problem other than what I am doing?

Xol,

It's just an annoying bug. The queue is empty, but the trap icon remains. Just ignore it.

"Scouts now get survival xp for crafting camps and traps (instead of general crafting xp)."

I've crafted like about 24 camps and about 24 traps since the patch and I've gotten no exp whatsoever. Anybody can confirm this?

Evangion,

Next time you craft a trap or camp open up the window and check your survival XP first. After you craft the item check again. You'll notice that the system did award you XP but it didn't put spam up on the window. Gerenally I think you get about 50xp per item crafted, but I haven't tried on the higher traps just on the mid level camps. It's workin, just not spammin.

You get survival xp for making camps but you do not get trapping xp for making traps. The xp you get is x2 the amount of resources put into crafting the item. So a basic camp gives 30xp, multi-person camp gives 56xp.
