Thread: Mask Scent: The death timer.
Okay I have not seen a lot of posts on Mask Scent lately, and its COMPLETE INEFFECTIVENESS has not went away yet.
Real situations:
I go prone, turn maskscent on 100 meters away from a Feral Bantha nest and slowly start creeping towards it, by time I get to 80 meters a creature has detected me and is attacking me.
Forget it, I won't use maskscent, so I run up and have a seat right next to the nest, 15 meters away from a Feral Bantha, I'm sitting there for a good 10 minutes before a Bantha finally gets mad and attacks me.
While 'exploring' after all mask scent is an EXPLORATION skill. Mask Scent at maximum will stay up for 10 checks, meaning after I pass up ten aggros I am getting attacking, I don't even have to get close to them at all.
Take Yavin 4 as an example, there if I'm not using Mask Scent I can navigate around fairly safely so long as I don't get too close to any aggro creatures. If I turn on Mask Scent, almost immediately I am attacked by something.
AsScouts and Rangerswe have a camouflage mod that prevents creatures from noticing me when not using maskscent. It works fairly well. This is a passive ability, requiring us to do nothing to use it. This skill mod seems to be shutting itself off when Mask Scent is used. Why are checks for maskscent made on creatures that do not know you are there yet? IMO the only time the maskscent should be checked is when a creature would normally be attacking you.
I realize not all scouts/rangers are having problems with Mask Scent, but a significant problem does exist and needs to be fixed as soon as possible, the ineffectiveness of Mask Scent is making not be able to get close up on creatures and is in effect eliminating the reason I became a Ranger/Scout in the first place: stealth. I am not asking to be completely invisible or have it never break, but I'd like for it be at least more effective than not using it at all.
I haven't had any real problems with mask scent. Not like you all seem to have. But, I'm usually on my comfy home planet of naboo. The one thing I did notice that seems like a bug is that while I have maskscent on, if I attack a greater shaurput that has a few other shaurputs around them the other shaurputs will immediately go aggro against me. The greater shaurput will stand there and take his beating. And they do this without breaking mask scent. Seems odd. But, its not a major problem because I can usually 1 or 2 shot those regular shaurputs. But, I can see how it would be a problem on Lok with Perlacks or something like that.
Ember,
All I can say is that the Devs are working on it.
Give me a little time. Have I ever failed you before? ![]()

It definitely seems that social creatures do not check against maskscent when you attack one of them. The rest of the nest always attacks, without breaking maskscent, while the creature I am actually attacking has taken no notice of the attack at all.
In my opinion - All of the social creatures should make another check against maskscent, perhaps with a bonus to them, since they did notice that one of their own is being attacked from somewhere. If one of them breaks maskscent, then the rest would naturally attack as if you were not masked (because you wouldn't be anymore). But if none of them broke maskscent, they should not attack.
Ember,
I wish there was an official response from the Devs myself, but I know that they are looking at the issue, because I presented it to them as our top problem right now in the profession. ![]()
Pere,

I am pretty sure that this is a bug - if you are masked and you attack something, it shouldn't pause there and look stupid, while it's friends make a beeline for you. They should ALL make a beeline for you. "Hey, I think someone's shooting at me..." - even Eopie's aren't that dumb. ![]()
I'm hoping that we'll hear something about maskscent soon. If I get any word, I'll let you all know.

same with me
i quit using mask scent, i do a lot better when i dont use
when i use it.. things attack me about 80% of the time when i'm detected.. not only do they attack me.. they usually spawn on top of me
never happens when i don't mask scent... i can actually runcloser to things and they never get upset

Good, makes me very happy to know that. I wish therewas built in video capture to the game, I could show some videos that would immediately convince everyone...
By the way here is a screenshot someone took, I took one just like, but don't have anyplace to post it:

Ember,
That's wacky. I wish his Radar was clearer so i could tell if there were any reds nearby.

Looks clear enough to me, there are two reds on the radar, both look to be at least 100 meters away.
Ember,
Maybe it was just my computer screen.
In any event, it looks like that was the result of a bug - it has been acknowledge and the fix is being tested on Test Center as part of the upcoming publish.
I'm going to do some pretty tough testing of Mask Scent to be sure that it is working right before it goes live.
