Thread: Meat Prices are out of control
Ganger,
If you want to blame people, blame the Doctors. They're the ones who are buying up all the good meat at the crazy prices. With buffs going for 10k a set, it's very easy to become rich, very quickly.
The only way to reduce the prices is to reduce the folks willing to buy at those prices. I would suggest that you find some friends who are Rangers and are willing to cut you a deal. Otherwise, you're going to have to raise you prices to keep up.

If you were to approach me and offer discounts or a freebie - my prices would drop and you in turn would get freebies.
If you were in my guild, my prices are always way low - 20% of normal prices usually.
So what are you doing for me? I could be doing themeparks and running around doing high paying missions, or I can be hunting for you - your call.

Avian meat prices are high for two reasons:
High demand
Low supply
Most avian drops are small, and this contributes to the scarcity of the resource. Harvesting Rori avian is an incredible PITA, for example. So is Tat avian. So the collection of this resource is very labor intensive, and it drops in small quanties, unless your server is fortunate to have a good spawn of avian on Naboo, where good sized critters (like giant peko pekos) drop avian.
If the avian is high OQ, it's going to go for 50cpu. If it's high OQ AND high PE, it's going to command 100cpu. If it's high OQ, high PE, and high DR (the trifecta!) hold on to your hats, the prices are going to go through the roof.
The fact of the matter is, doctors have a LOT of money to toss around. With buffs selling for 10k a set, I can easily net a quarter of a million credits over the period of an hour at the mining outpost on Dantooine. If I purchase a set of buffs for 72k, I easily can cover my costs of materials (to include the bivoli) in one buffing session. and walk away wtih 180k credits in my pocket, which goes back into the pockets of doctor-crafters on my server.
Another issue is that I get my buff packsfor "free", sort of. Actually, I harvest avian and herb meats, turn it over to our crafter doc, and she provides me with stimpacks, buffpacks, and med components for CM ranged and AOE stims. I'm sure a lot of this goes on within PAs, where in kind contributions of resources to master crafters results in you getting things for no upfront credit cost, like pharmaceuticals, armor, and weapons. I go out and skin durnis for wooly hide for the armorsmith, I run a harvester for copper for the weaponsmith, and I bring in loads of avian and herb meats for the crafting doctor. This will distort the economics of the situation a bit.

I agree completely. when I sell meat and such I go 4cpu at the highest. The prices are INSANE now. And as far as it being "worth someones time" every bit of those resources I sell I was doing a mission, so I got payed regardless. It's not about "worth anyones time to sell it" it's just being greedy. If a scout doesn't do missions and tries to get paid just from resource sales, then well... they're stupid. The upside is that my resources never stayed on bid more than a day.
Rebuttal to that is i can put junk meat and hide on bazaar for 10 cpu and it won't last a day either.
I think a while back some did the caluclations at even at 100cpu - avain meat only constituted 3% of the costs of Buffs. The reason docs charge 10k+ a buff is because people can run one 10k mission quite easily and have plenty of the buff left over for other missions. Missions, loot and all the rest just pay out far too much and hence there is far to much money in the economy.
